A little throwback to 1976 when we started mixing colors for Baxter Stults’s lithograph, “And we pause for breath“

Okay fine… this was actually taken a few months ago but we’re pretty sure Taryn Ferro accidentally opened a time portal to the 70’s to capture this amazing shot!

AND WE PAUSE FOR BREATH - BAXTER STULTS

Stults’ lithograph, And we pause for breath, evokes memories of late-night summer strolls, when the ordinary becomes extraordinary and we are transported to a cinematic scene. It is a moment of nostalgic, suburban voyeurism that lingers in the minds of children and adults alike. The streetlight hums overhead, casting sharp rays that reveal and conceal the path before the viewer. In stillness, we hesitate, aware of what might emerge from the darkness and what lies beyond our reach. The scene becomes a threshold where curiosity, unease, and possibility converge… and we pause for breath.

This limited edition lithograph is printed on Cream Rives BFK Printmaking Paper and signed by the artist.

PERPETUAL GUARDIANS - TATIANA POTTS

Perpetual Guardians draws inspiration from architectural spaces in New Haven, Connecticut, and Knoxville, Tennessee. Potts combines selected architectural details from each location to construct a newly imagined environment. The pop-up elements and chairs suggest the absence of friends or family while simultaneously functioning as an invitation for others to enter and experience the space.

The text incorporated into the work is written in English and Slovak using the Cyrillic alphabet. This approach allows Potts freedom from strict concerns about spelling while creating a layered, semi-coded language that can be partially read but not easily deciphered. Influenced by the visual richness of illuminated manuscripts, the text functions both as language and ornament, enhancing the visual and conceptual atmosphere of the piece.

This limited edition lithographic, artist book is printed on Grey Rives BFK Printmaking Paper, hand bound and signed by the artist.

MOTHER’S HAND - JONPAUL SMITH

Mother’s Hand explores themes of memory, heritage, and the enduring presence of maternal influence. Rendered in a monochromatic pink palette befitting his personality, Smith’s lithograph evokes a sense of tenderness and nostalgia. At the center of the print, a hand extends through a dense garden of punchy peonies and lilies - symbols of nurture, growth, and protection amidst struggle. The circular composition suggests the cyclical nature of life, while the fragmented and woven imagery mirrors the complexities that make up our relationships. Mother’s Hand becomes a deeply personal yet universally resonant meditation on care, resilience, and the intricate bonds that tie us to those who came before.

REBUS - MATT MAGEE

Inspired by and formatted as an ancient Chinese wax seal, ‘Rebus’ combines the most well-known Tennessee Architectural landmarks with celebratory expressive mark making. Tightly scaled iconographic forms and gestures were drawn out in sequence from top left to lower right to create a paragraph that relates to both history and the present day. Historically, Chinese personalized seals also known as chops marked important documents and relate directly and are precursors to the contemporary printmaking practice wherein a print shop will emboss their personalized identification symbol known as a ‘chop mark’ into a lower right or left corner of a completed print.

The word “rebus” comes from the Latin phrase “non verbis, sed rebus,” which translates to “not by words, but by things”. This phrase captures the essence of a rebus, which uses pictures or symbols to represent words or phrases, rather than relying on conventional written words.
