Orcus, Gabe Benzur. One of the many surrealistic and topographically imaginative landscapes in DEMIURGE, which opens at One Mile this Saturday, June 14th from 5-8pm. Bezur creates a meticulously rendered interplay of geological and botanical forms— undulating land masses and stratified chasms that recede into an ambiguous spatial depth, evoking a sense of both the terrestrial and the fantastical. The work resists strict perspectival logic, favoring instead a quasi-isometric approach that flattens depth while allowing simultaneous legibility of multiple spatial registers. This compositional strategy, along with the bizarre chromatic sensibility and dreamlike iconography, situates the painting within a lineage of metaphysical and visionary landscape traditions. The result is a poetic meditation on landscape as both a physical space and a psychological construct—one that is as much internal and symbolic as it is external and observational. Robert Glück is an American poet, fiction writer, and artist. His published poetry includes the book Reader (1989) and his published fiction work includes Margery Kempe (1994), Jack the Modernist (1995) and Denny Smith (2003), and essay collections such as Communal N**e (2016).
Glück was the director of San Francisco State’s Poetry Center as well as the co-director of the Small Press Traffic Literary Center, and associate editor at Lapis Press. His ceramic work, as seen above, is in Muddy Music curated by . LAST DAY TODAY!
