Kingston Social invites you into the world of DRIFTING, an of new work by our very own Helena Palazzi, the creative powerhouse behind our beautiful Italian cafe and a fine artist in her own right…

DRIFTING considers the forces, both internal and external, that carry us from one moment, one place, or one version of self to another. Layered compositions and nuanced textures mirror the way memories form and fade, how identity evolves, and how connections shift. Like the act of drifting itself, these works offer no fixed destination, but instead explore the beauty and complexity of existing in the moment. This show features photography of landscapes blurred and layered, evoking a sense of drifting between time and space, alongside mixed media poured paintings reflecting the fluidity of life’s transitions.

Jessie Sheehan is an accomplished food writer and recipe developer and on-camera personality as well as the host of the baking podcast She’s My Cherry Pie. Come meet Jessie and sample treats from her latest cookbook, ‘Snackable Bakes’, a compendium of salty, cheesy, herby, crispy savory recipes. We have become known for our authentic Italian pastries, one of which is the BOMBOLONE (pronounced BAHM-buh-loh-nay), a doughnut-like confection filled with custard or chocolate hazelnut. A soft, pillowy texture with a creamy texture… perfection.

Although Italians only drink cappuccino in the morning, we serve them all day, Thursday to Tuesday, 8am to 5pm! In Italian, cappuccino means “little cap,” which aptly describes the head of foamed milk that sits atop the drink’s espresso base. According to history, it also allegedly derives from the traditional dress of the Capuchin order of monks. With their iconic brown hooded cowls and shaved heads, Capuchin monks do indeed resemble the ring of crema, i.e., the white foam that tops the classic beverage. A cappuccino [KAP-UH-CHEE-NOH] is traditionally prepared
with equal parts esresso, steamed milk, and steamed
milk foam on top.

Winter in the Hudson Valley calls for playing GAMES and solving PUZZLES around a roaring fire, no? We have an array of beautifully-designed options, from CHECKERS to YATZE and SHUT THE BOX, as well as the clever WORLD and USA PUZZLES from NOLJA. We have a few panettone still available along with some PANDORO, another type of Italian sweet bread, most popular around Christmas and New Year. Typically a product of the city of Verona, Veneto, pandoro traditionally has an eight-pointed shape. It is often dusted with vanilla scented icing sugar, which is said to resemble the snowy peaks of the Alps during Christmas. It also makes a fantastic “pain perdu” (a.k.a, French Toast) for breakfast, slathered in mascarpone and syrup, or topped with caramel as the French enjoy it for dessert.

In the short time we have resided here on Fair Street, you have really shown us the love, and for that we have much gratitude. We are also immensely grateful to have the very best baristas in the world. Thank you Leah, Meabh, Cait and Caleb for contributing your talents and for helping the café be the heralded place that it has become in !
