On June 4, 1960, a group of dedicated residents came together with a shared vision: to protect the unique culture, architecture, and intangible heritage of Key West.
That vision became the Old Island Restoration Foundation.
Founding officers include Reta Sawyer, Ruth Holtsberg, Joan T. Knight, Mary L. Graham, and J.J. Pinder, the organization was created at a time when many of Key West's historic buildings faced an uncertain future. Their foresight and determination began a preservation movement that continues to shape our island today.
Sixty-five years later, we remain proud of the mission they began and deeply grateful to the founders whose passion ensured that future generations would be able to experience the history, architecture, and stories that make Key West so special.
Here's to preserving the past, celebrating the present, and carrying their vision forward. 🌿🏡🐚
