The Girl Boss by contemporary artist Pamela Beer, is executed in a Contemporary Expressionist style. The piece is created using a unique medium combining oil paint and cold wax medium on wooden panel. The use of cold wax medium allows the artist to build up thick, matte layers. The forms are broken down into blocks of color and expressive, gestural marks rather than fine lines. The boundaries of the figure and the horse melt into the background, a classic technique in modern expressionism to blend the subject into its environment.

Glacier Art Museum’s Plein Air Glacier event is winding down today. Did anyone see artists painting in location this week? We caught up with Sandy Bridgewater painting on McDonald Creek in Glacier Park. Don’t miss her exhibit titled, The Mountain View at the gallery, today and tomorrow are the last two days! A note from the artist: It was a quiet morning of plein air painting above Dayton’s Yacht Harbor. Two beautiful sail boats were waiting to enter the waters of Flathead Lake’s west shore with views of nearby Wild Horse Island. This area is special for sailors who enjoy consistent winds.

This vibrant landscape painting by Montana artist Allen Jimmerson depicts Iceberg Lake, a famous glacially-carved tarn nestled in Glacier National Park. The cirque wall abruptly behind the water is the towering, semi-circular rock wall of the Ptarmigan Wall. The massive vertical cliffs are rendered in rich earthy tones of terracotta, deep brown, and rust, highlighted by pockets of permanent snow and ice clinging to the crevices. Can you feel how cold the water is?
