The Fentress County Historical Society and the Jamestown Garden Club worked together to honor John William Beaty (1958-2026) and Wanda June (Sewell) Hatfield (1937-2026) by planting two Paw Paw trees in the Mark Twain Park

Members of the historical society were joined by family members and friends sharing memories of both John and Wanda, both lifelong residents of the county.

John was a special friend to the historical society. He was always there to help in any capacity needed and served on the board for many years. He was a fabulous story teller and listening to his historical tales was always a treat.

Wanda was the last surviving member of the Fentress County Historical Society. She was secretary and then took over as Editor of the newsletter in 1998. She put out 4 letters a year until her health stopped her in the summer of 2025. Wanda was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the East Tennessee Historical Society in 2025. She was involved with the Historical Society since 1968 and was the county historian when she passed.
