Handwork, Ithaca's Artisan Cooperative Handwork is owned and staffed by artists, offering handcrafted work from makers and beyond.

Handwork, Ithaca’s Cooperative Craft Store was founded in 1976 by 12 local craftspeople. Handwork currently has 40+ artist members who own and staff the store, meet monthly to share information and decision making and jury new member-applicants. Our store is located in Downtown Ithaca, showcasing the area's finest pottery, woodworking, glass, jewelry, fiber arts, and more. Gift Certificates, Gift Registry and shipping options are available.

October is National Co-ops Month! 🤝 In this video we take a short tour of Handwork while listening to just a small piece of the incredible history of Cooperatives.

It is fitting to post this on Indigenous Peoples Day 🐢 as Native peoples have long demonstrated their value of shared ownership, reciprocity and collective decision making having engaged deeply in the Cooperative model both historically as a way of life, all the way through to the present day both culturally and within formal organizations.

Today, let's celebrate community and those who have championed the power of collective action becoming an inspiration for us all. ❤️‍🔥

During October Gallery Night Colleen McKenzie (CM McKenzie) demonstrated how she makes her felted creations! She can really let her imagination go wild with this art form creating everything from song birds to fantastical creatures. It's great to see how everything comes together from start to finish. 🧶🐑🪡

Leaf peeping season is upon us! 🍁 There's nothing quite like wandering around upstate New York in October with crisp cool mornings and glowing sunny afternoons. Handwork is seeking a temporary part-time Retail Sales Associate to join our team of eclectic artists and ensure great customer service this holiday season starting in November 2026.

Responsibilities include providing excellent and attentive customer service, restocking shelves + gift packing supplies, and maintaining and keeping the store tidy.

Compensation starts at $16.00/hour
Must be able to work flexible hours and days, including weekends, evenings, and Holidays as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:
Ability to go up and down stairs and lift 25 lb boxes.
Good communication skills with the ability to utilize technology and engage with customers.
Ability to comfortably be on your feet and stand for extended periods of time.

Preferred Qualifications:
Previous Retail Experience
High School Diploma or Equivalent

With a home garden filled with an extensive collection of plants selected for their ability to preserve their color, as well as wild-foraged plant material from the landscape, Carol creates her arrangements with care in her barn studio, surrounded by the materials that inspire her.

Stop by Handwork to see this new window display in person—wreaths, bouquets, and lavender bundles displayed in a rustic setting. 🍂

Buzz buzz! 🐝🐝🐝 The bees are busy at work with the last blooms of the season. We're pretty busy too here at Handwork making sure to stock up with lots of beautiful, handcrafted fine art and crafts from makers local to Ithaca, the Finger Lakes and beyond!

Handwork co-op is owned and staffed by its artist members which makes up the majority of the work represented here at the store. However, we also fill in with consignment and wholesale work that fit our strict standard of American made and handcrafted.

Today I had the pleasure of chatting with Teresa Yatsko about her works when she came by to drop off a restock of her mini book sculptures shown here! 📚

For Teresa, everything starts with a photograph and her three dimensional sculptures evolve from these personal memories of people and places into her fantastical book environments. You can travel the world in a book and Teresa brings that feeling to life in her sculptures.
