Catalyst and Rip Space present a conversation between artists Casey Reas and Ina Chen moderated by Vera Petukhova exploring the evolving conditions of software as an artistic medium, moving from generative image-making and experimental cinema to real-time, spatial,
and immersive forms.
Bringing together two distinct approaches to computational practice, the conversation considers how both artists use software based practice as a means of constructing images, and new forms of storytelling. Through their respective practices, Reas and Chen will discuss the relationship between software and cinema, spatial experience, narrative, and the ways computational systems shape how we perceive and imagine worlds.
The program extends a series of collaborations that emerged through exhibitions presented this summer by Rip Space with Supercollider and bitforms, bringing artists and organizations working across software, moving image, and emerging media into continued dialogue. Supercollider is thrilled to support as a community partner for this program.
