Beginning October 24th in Alabama, you can ride the “Punkin’ Pickin’” fall train aboard the North Alabama Railroad, where a classic train ride and pumpkin picking come together for a fun family outing! The trip begins at the historic Mercury & Chase Depot in Huntsville before the train heads along the museum’s railroad tracks toward Normal, Alabama. Along the way, you can enjoy the sounds of the train, views from the vintage passenger cars, and the woods of North Alabama beginning to show their fall colors. Once the train reaches Normal, everyone gets off and walks over to a small pumpkin patch. Children can look around and choose a pumpkin to take home, with the pumpkin included with their ticket and a plastic bag provided for carrying it. The pumpkins are kept at a size that children can handle. The train then loads back up for the return ride to Chase Depot. The 2026 event has four departures at 9:30 AM, 11:00 AM, 1:00 PM, and 2:30 PM, and tickets often sell quickly.
