A few historical views of the 1936 Windmill Point Boathouse as we look forward to tonight's Annual Town Meeting.
We are grateful to the Community Preservation Commission for recommending a grant of $70,000 toward a historically appropriate restoration of this landmark building. The grant will help to restore the historic character of the boathouse and improve the facility for our education programs. By restoring the traditional boat doors, the museum will also be able to improve access to historic USCG 36501 Motor Lifeboat housed inside the boathouse.
If the $70,000 grant is approved, a grant of $50,000 in matching funds has been pledged by a private foundation. Please, help us meet that match!
Please, support preserving our local maritime heritage by Voting Yes on Article 9B/e. Thank you for your support!

If You Build A Crew Program For Overweight Kids, They Will Row — And Get Fitter

Rowing can be a great sport for kids who are not drawn to more typical team sports. Here's a great article about one program's inclusive approach.
Our Spring Youth Rowing Session starts next week. No experience needed, and financial assistance readily available. Contact [email protected].
http://www.hulllifesavingmuseum.org/SSYR_SPRING_2019_flyer.pdf

"It's all kids just like them — all the kids who have felt left out," Picard says. Often, they are kids who sprint and stop repeatedly rather than endure long running distances — but they can row like demons. "They are strong," she says. "They are strong, powerful people, so when you put them in a program that caters to their strength set or ability set, they thrive." https://www.wbur.org/commonhealth/2014/09/19/owl-rowing-for-overweight-kids

With more than 23 million American kids overweight or obese, an innovative Charles River rowing program shows that if you design a sports program with heavier kids in mind, you can help them make real fitness gains.
