Good news: The new HLM website appears to be functioning properly and is accepting Snow Row registrations. Here are a couple of notes to help you register:
1) The link to the registration is most easily accessed by scrolling down on the home page to the Snow Row event and associated documents and links http://www.hulllifesavingmuseum.org/
2) If you register before 3/1/20, you are guaranteed a snow row hat. We have ordered 300 hats. For those who register on the day of the race, when we run out, we run out.
3) Long Sleeve Snow Row T-Shirts are available for $20. As with the hats, orders for T-shirts after 3/1/20 will be filled until we run out.
4) Hats and T-shirts can be picked up at the registration desk on race day, March 14.
5) Spectator boat tickets can be purchased in advance on line as well. Please print your receipt as proof of purchase to make ticketing easier on the 14th.

Important note: If you have any problems ordering or find any glitches on the web site, please send me an email and I will address the issue immediately. Please do not post registration questions or web issues on Facebook as it will only confuse everyone. [email protected] 😊

Snow Row Update: We have a new website that we made live Wednesday night. Unfortunately, according to our web hosting company, it can take up to 48 hours for the new site to work properly so in the meantime our web site and email are in limbo! As soon the site loads, Snow Row Sign registration, Spectator Boat tickets and Snow Row T-shirts will be available on line. I will send an update as soon as I know more.

Answer to the radar image question: A few people who commented had it right or close to right. I overlayed a Google Earth image onto the radar image which shows Windmill point, Peddocks Island, etc. The radar image is from the Snow Row spectator's boat. And all of the little dots to the left of the center of the radar screen are the Snow Row competitors strung out along the last leg of the race from the "Harry's Rock" day marker to the Boathouse finish line. A few of the larger dots are channel markers...and yes it could be a Tug Boat's nightmare if it was trying to get to Hull Gut. Thanks to all for playing along.

Ok, here is a great trivia question for you HLM mariners out there. The radar image below was taken during an HLM Event. What are we looking at? Add as much info as you can to your answer. I will publish a detailed description in a day or so...I want to give you enough time to think about it!

Harpoon Shamrock Splash

Do you know former Hull Lifesaving Museum Executive Director Victoria Stevens? (I'm sure most of you do) How about her son Caleb? Well both Vicki and and Caleb are doing the Shamrock Plunge in Boston on March 8th. They are officially representing The Hull Lifesaving Museum for the event which benefits "Save the Harbor Save the Bay" and is sponsored by Harpoon Brewery. We are asking that people donate to Vicki's and Caleb's adventure because "Save the Harbor Save the Bay" contributes to The Hull Lifesaving Museum's signature summer event...The Illumination. Please click on the link below and make a small contribution. Thank you Vicki and Caleb, you are both tougher than I am!

Sea and Sky art show preview: It has been a busy couple of weeks leading up to the art show opening this Friday evening from 7 pm - 9 pm. We had a great turnout of 110 submissions and we accepted 75 pieces. A combination of employees and volunteers hung and placed the art on Friday and we are just about ready to go. Here are a couple of highlights: We made an exception to the 3' rule by accepting a really cool life sized figure of a man made of drift wood. We also have on display, although not actually in the show, a 17' long knitted scarf made by a women who knitted a few inches each day depicting the Sea and Sky she as she observed them. Our Juror has a spectacular nocturne oil painting of Graves Light on display in the Orientation Room. And of particular local importance we have a retrospective of local artist Trish Turner's work. As many of you know, Trish Turner was a long time contributor to the local art world and an important volunteer at art events such as Sea and Sky. We all hope to see you at the opening and throughout the shows 4 week run.

We had a busy morning moving the more than 100 entries to our Sea And Sky art show around the museum so that our juror, Bill Davis, could get a good look at everything. It was a difficult task for Bill to whittle the the entries down to the 75 or so pieces that we can hang and to select winners, but we got through it. We are looking forward to a big turnout for the show opening reception February 14th from 7 -9pm.

So we are getting ready for the Snow Row, which is on March 14 this year and we are trying to get more traditional single and double rowing craft in the race this year. One of the boats in our stable of donated boats is this Monument River Wherry designed and built by John Aborn. It is lightning fast but has some bottom damage and needs some overall maintenance. We have sanded down the the bottom and a couple inches up the sides to make the repairs with fiberglass cloth and epoxy resin. The plan is to have it ready to race in the Snow Row and then make it available for sale...Did I mention that it is lightning fast!

I can't find the link to register for the Snow Row on the store page. If it isn't up, let folks know when it will be. Or make it a bit more obvious if it is. Thanks
Thank you to the Hull Lifesaving Museum for showing "The Finest Hours" movie based on an incredible true life story! "The Finest Hours" had a profound impact on me, giving me a deeper appreciation for the many brave men & women who risk their lives in service to - and for the sake of - others. The movie forces one to be pragmatic about faith, and it reflects how a small (coastal) community comes together in strong support of its own.
Wolfie and I invite you all to a row/paddle and sailing invasion of Club Edge this Sunday, Nov 3rd, 2:00-7pm for a friendly adventure -- destination from 89 Edgewater to be determined based on wind & weather -- and potluck. If you arrive after 3 (by land or by sea) we will leave a floatplan and cryptic treasure map for you to follow.
