Hi, I’m John — a photographer from Southern California with a passion that began when I won my first DSLR, a Canon 7D, at just 12 years old. What started as a fun way to explore my surroundings quickly grew into a deeper drive to share visual stories. That early spark turned into a lifelong love for capturing the world through a lens. While I’m drawn to landscapes and street photography, I find inspiration in everything from wildlife and nature to human connection and spontaneous moments. Photography captures the way I see the world — vibrant, emotional, and brimming with moments worth remembering. My childhood road trips to places like Yosemite, Yellowstone, and the Grand Canyon played a huge role in shaping my love for nature and visual storytelling. Those early adventures eventually led me to earn a master’s degree from UC Berkeley in Energy, Civil Infrastructure, and Climate — merging my passions for the environment and the wonder it inspires. Over the past decade, I’ve continued to refine my eye, focusing on complementary colors and bold contrasts that make my images feel immersive — like you're right there in the moment. Whether I’m shooting a serene landscape, a bustling city street, or a client portrait session, I aim to evoke emotion and inspire connection. When I'm behind the camera, I'm at home. My hope is that each photo invites you to pause, feel, and remember what it means to be present.

The Florida Panhandle at blue hour is something else. 🌊

Long exposure off the boardwalk — the water gone glassy, the pier lights just flickering on, those dark rocks anchoring the foreground while the sky does its pastel thing. I love how still a long exposure makes a place that never actually stops moving.

This is from my Landscapes portfolio. It's one of those images that brings a real calm to a room — all blues and soft light.

Brazos Bend is at its most alive right after the rain. 🌿

These lotus leaves were standing tall above the water, that impossible green glowing against the dark pond behind them. I love this in-between moment — not the bloom, not the pads flat on the surface, but the leaves reaching up like they're trying to get a better view.

It's from my Brazos Bend collection — the quiet, green corners of the park most people walk right past.

Some nights the moon does all the talking. 🌕

Full moon, high and bright, hanging over a thin ribbon of clouds lit gold from below. I love how small it makes everything feel — all that black sky, and then this one perfect disc of light just sitting there, doing nothing but glowing.

This is from my Miscellaneous portfolio — the frames that don't fit a theme but earned their place anyway. A full moon print has this calm, quiet gravity on a wall that's hard to describe until you see it.

Your camera is not the reason your photos aren’t better.

Better gear never made anyone a better photographer. What it does is buy opportunity — the shot in near-darkness, the faraway bird frozen mid-air, the storm you can keep shooting through. It makes you able, not good.

Everything that actually leveled up my photography cost nothing: learning to see light, showing up, talking to strangers, and being willing to lie in the middle of a road for a self-portrait.

My rule now: upgrade only when you can name the exact shot your current gear can’t get. If you can’t name it, you don’t need it.

Southern Oregon's coast has a softer side. 🌼

Tucked just off the shoreline, these black-eyed Susans were catching the light — that bright yellow against the dark centers, one bloom standing tall while the rest blur into gold behind it. I got in close for this one, wide open, letting the shallow depth of field do the work.

It's from my Nature & Wildlife portfolio, and it's one of those images that just feels like late summer — warm, uncomplicated, happy.

There's a whole universe on a lily pad after the rain. 🌿

Brazos Bend, right after a shower — every drop sitting perfect and round, the veins radiating out like a map. I shot this looking straight down, and I love how the tiny yellow leaf and that single stem break the symmetry just enough to keep it interesting.

It's the kind of quiet detail you'd walk right past on the trail. That's what the Brazos Bend collection is all about — small, still moments.

There's a version of Chicago that only exists at blue hour. 🌆

Empty street, fall color still hanging on, the old towers lit warm against that deep blue sky. I love this pocket of the city — the mix of historic facades and glass, the quiet before downtown fully wakes up. It feels like Chicago is letting you in on something before the crowds arrive.

Chicago from above hits different. 🏙️

This is Lake Shore Drive from the sky — the rooftops, the traffic crawling along the lake, that impossible blue of Lake Michigan across the top. I shot this looking straight down, and I love how the city turns into a patchwork of rooftops and streets from up here. You can almost feel the hum of the city in it.

I don't live in Chicago anymore, and honestly, pieces like "Lake Shore Drive Rooftops" are how I stay connected to it. There's something about seeing the whole grid laid out that reminds you how alive that city is.

Brazos Bend State Park has a way of slowing you down. 🌿

I was walking the trails when I spotted this little pied-billed grebe weaving through the lily pads — round body, stubby bill, completely in its element. The rain had just left perfect beads on every pad, and the whole pond felt like it was holding its breath.

It's not the grand landscape moment — it's the quiet ones like this that stay with you. That's why I keep going back to Brazos Bend.

Point Fermin, San Pedro, on a cloudy evening — and three pelicans gliding home in perfect formation.

I love this stretch of coast when the marine layer rolls in. No sunset colors that night, just soft gray light and these birds doing what they do best: barely flapping, just riding the air. I went black and white for this one to strip it down to the shapes — the wings, the spacing, that quiet rhythm of them moving together.

This is from my Nature & Wildlife portfolio, and it's one of my favorite minimalist pieces. It has this calm to it that works so well on a wall.
