Arnold Friberg's artistic talents extended well beyond the canvas.

While working on Cecil B. DeMille's epic film "The Ten Commandments," in addition to painting major scenes in the motion picture, Friberg also designed the titles for the film, creating an original lettering style that would express the spirit of the film.

Hollywood's vision of ancient Egypt as depicted in the 1956 motion picture "The Ten Commandments" began with an artist's brush.

This concept portrait of Rameses is among the newest additions to First Freedom Art's Arnold Friberg Collection. While working with legendary Hollywood director Cecil B. DeMille, Friberg created this painting to help establish the visual world of "The Ten Commandments." His artwork influenced everything from costume design to set decoration to props, bringing one of cinema's greatest biblical epics to life.

A royal commission. An extraordinary honor.

When Arnold Friberg painted the Prince of Wales (now King Charles III) in the late 1970s, he became the only American ever commissioned to create an equestrian portrait of a member of the British royal family.

Commissioned by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Friberg approached the assignment with his trademark dedication to authenticity — even studying Prince Charles' leather boots so every detail would be faithfully rendered.

This portrait would open the door to another remarkable commission a dozen years later: Queen Elizabeth II's official equestrian portrait at Buckingham Palace.

Against towering mountains and ancient pines, a Mountie and his horse stand together in quiet vigilance.

In "Mountie and Horse," Arnold Friberg captured more than the unmistakable scarlet uniform of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. His meticulous attention to the weight and texture of the uniform, leather and tack gives the scene remarkable realism, while the closeness of horse and rider suggests a partnership forged through long days in the wilderness.

Set against the vast Canadian landscape, the 1968 painting is a tribute to duty, endurance and the enduring legacy of the Mounties — as well as Friberg's talent.

Friberg once said he had never painted horses before receiving his first Mountie commission, so he "studied everything [he] could find to get the equestrian images right."
