I am Caroline K. Hall. I am an artist. I am a woman. I am a mom and a wife. I am the daughter of teachers and makers. I am an art teacher. I am a friend, a dreamer and a doer. I am a runner and a gardener. I am a painter. I paint with oils, although sometimes the surfaces I paint on aren’t always canvas. I also like to work in mixed media, involving nature in my works. I also bead and create with unique materials. I use found objects that reflect the image I’m reaching for. I’m inspired by the nature I see on my runs, as well as the architecture I see on my road trip adventures and hikes around the world. I love color. I am always experiencing new things with my students in the classroom that I take to the studio as I am always learning.

A timeless, meditative journey through color, texture, and form defines my artistic practice through an ongoing exploration of the mind, body, and soul in dialogue with nature. Working in mixed media, I translate organic rhythms and natural systems into layered, tactile surfaces that reflect both the beauty and fragility of the natural world. Nature is my primary source of inspiration, particularly its cycles of growth, decay, and renewal. These processes are echoed in my materials and methods, where repurposed and discarded elements are integrated to create renewed presence and meaning, emphasizing sustainability and interconnectedness. Texture is central to my visual language, built through gels, paper, fabric, and organic matter. My process is intuitive and meditative, allowing each piece to evolve naturally. Through both my studio practice and inclusive workshops, I seek to foster connection, accessibility, and a deeper awareness of our relationship with the environment.

We welcome artist Hyewon Gahng to this year's Hopewell Tour Des Arts. Be sure to visit Hyewon at the Freight Shed.

I am currently creating work inspired by the changing seasons, nature, people, and the emotions around me.
After graduating from Pratt Institute, I mainly worked as an art teacher. The pure and uninhibited creativity of my young students has always been a source of inspiration for me. They reminded me that art does not have to be perfect. Some of the best ideas come naturally, without planning everything.
Since the pandemic, I have dedicated myself to my own art and have explored a wide range of media, including painting, drawing, collage, printmaking, and mixed media. Instead of deciding exactly what the finished painting will look like, I begin with an idea and allow the work to change as I paint. The process itself becomes an important part of the artwork. Unexpected colors, textures, and marks often lead me in new directions, and I enjoy seeing how the final painting slowly takes shape.
This body of work focuses primarily on flowers. I use layers of color and texture to build each painting, allowing the flowers to emerge naturally. As I paint, each painting grows through the process. Every layer adds something unexpected, allowing the colors and forms to develop in their own way until the work feels complete.

We welcome artist Lynn Ebeling to this year's Hopewell Tour Des Arts. Be sure to visit Lynn at her studio.

I have been involved in making art throughout my life. I spent my career as an elementary art teacher, so for many years I did my best to help young people value art and learn to make their own. At the same time, I knew that it was important to engage in my own creative pursuits, so through the years I enjoyed making pottery, oil painting, and presently am obsessed with basket-making. So for the past 26 years since I’ve retired, I have been creating hand-woven baskets.

If one loves to make things, it’s important to move those things along to new owners in order to have the space to continue to make more of the things that one loves. Thus, I enjoy participating in art and craft shows, such as the Tour des Arts. When I sell a basket that I’ve made, it’s wonderful to know that someone else values my work, and it validates what I’m doing, and encourages me to want to make more.

It’s exciting for me to see my work on display, and I hope that visitors will enjoy coming to my studio, where looking at the beautiful baskets on display will make them happy.

I have no etherial inspiration or lofty artistic intentions when weaving baskets, I simply. love to weave and to create beautiful shapes that are lovely to look at functional to use.

We welcome artist Deborah Eater to this year's Hopewell Tour Des Arts. Be sure to visit her at the CBC Gallery.

I approach collage as if it were painting, using scraps of paper as my brushstrokes. A small (9″ x 12″) piece may involve a thousand or more had-cut, individually-pasted pieces of paper, some just a few millimeters wide. It’s a slow process, but it’s a labor of love.
I’m fascinated by curving lines, whether I encounter them in nature, in fabricated structures such as bridges and highways; or as mathematical concepts.

My studio practice is marked by a commitment to sustainability. In addition to using recycled paper from catalogs and magazines, I look for ways to reduce the environmental impact of every part of my process.

I believe that being creative — in any fashion, not just being an artist — is an intrinsic part of being fully human.

After taking a Saori weaving workshop at the New York State Sheep and Wool Show in 2024, I realized that working in fiber is in my bones. I became obsessed with dyeing and spinning and read The Fabric of Civilization and other books about textile history, learning how fabric records our human story.
