Sakiko Tomibe
Japanese Ceramic Artist | Kyoto, Japan
Sakiko Tomibe is a contemporary ceramic artist based in Kyoto, Japan. After studying under renowned Kyoto ceramic artist Rakunyu Yoshimura, she established her independent practice in 2016.
Guided by the Japanese philosophy of Onko Chishin—learning from the past to create something new—Tomibe brings traditional ceramic techniques into contemporary life.
Her works are distinguished by their delicate, thinly formed shapes and subtle surface textures, including iron glazes and kohiki (white slip) finishes. Each piece reflects a thoughtful balance of form, texture, and function, embodying the understated elegance of Kyoto craftsmanship.
Tomibe believes that a vessel becomes complete when food is placed within it. Her ceramics are not simply objects to admire, but works meant to be touched, used, and appreciated in everyday life.
Rooted in tradition yet distinctly contemporary, her creations bring a quiet sense of beauty and Kyoto’s artistic spirit to the modern table.
