A defining piece of National Championship Air Races history has earned a permanent home at the Smithsonian. ✈️
The Aero L-39C Albatros "American Spirit," owned and flown by Ed Noel of the Noel Air Race Team, has been donated to the National Air and Space Museum. Between 2002 and 2024, the aircraft achieved eight first-place finishes, nine top-five finishes, and three closed-course speed records.
The L-39 has served as the primary aircraft of our Jet Class since 2002. "American Spirit" now joins the National Collection alongside the Wright brothers' Flyer and will be displayed at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center later this summer.
Congratulations to Ed Noel and the entire Noel Air Race Team on this remarkable honor.
