We’ll watch Jane Russell and Vincent Price in "The Las Vegas Story," eat popcorn, and revel in a little midcentury Las Vegas charm under the stars — all while supporting our museum.

Bring your favorite camp chairs and blankets. It’s a rare chance to enjoy a movie on the museum lawn.

The boys have left their toys out again, and Dad is still away at war.

That’s the feeling you walk into at the Townsite House at the Clark County Museum. You’ve come past the pomegranate tree and the Victory Garden, and somehow this house from another time feels familiar. There are children to look after, things to get done, and someone missing from all of it.

The history here runs deep. The Townsite House helps tell the story of Basic Magnesium, the Second World War, and the beginnings of Henderson.

But give yourself a little time inside the house. Imagine being the parent at home, trying to keep the days ordinary for your boys while you wait for news. You still have to get dinner ready. You still have to ask them to pick up their toys, to feed their pet lizard recently caught from outside. And when they ask about Dad, you have to find an answer that helps them feel safe, even on a day when you’re scared yourself.

There’s so much warmth in this little house. You can imagine the boys running through it, getting underfoot, being boys. You can imagine how much their mother wants them to remember a happy home, and how much she’s looking forward to having everyone together again.

Come spend a little time here. See what feels familiar to you.

This weekend, we shared a video with an inside glimpse of the Beckley family home. But who were the Beckleys?

Imagine it’s 1910. You’ve grown up in the Midwest, and now you’re stepping off a train in the dusty railroad town of Las Vegas. It’s September. It’s 107 degrees.

Imagine building a home here, only to find the announcement of it buried beneath the tragic news of the Titanic’s sinking.

And imagine watching the early story of Las Vegas unfold right outside your front door.

More than a century later, that door is still open.

This house watched Las Vegas grow up. And you can still walk through its front door.

In 1912, Will and Leva Beckley built a home just off Fremont Street. They raised their children here. Welcomed friends here. Made a home while, all around them, a little railroad town grew into a city the whole world would recognize.

And in 1920, when the first airplane flew into Las Vegas, a passenger dropped a doll into this very yard for their little girl, Virginia. (That passenger? Her uncle.)

By 1979, this house was the last pioneer home left in downtown Las Vegas. It could have disappeared. But people cared enough to save it.

Moved to the Clark County Museum in Henderson, the Beckley House became the first home on Heritage Street. Other homes would follow, each carrying its own stories, each offering a chance to discover what yesteryear looked like—and, especially, what it felt like.

That’s the magic of this museum. You walk into someone else’s history and find something familiar. A kitchen gadget. A familiar decor. A tchotchke. Little reminders of home feelings past.

Today we honor and remember the victims of the 1 October tragedy and stand in solidarity with the survivors, families, and all those affected. The Remembering 1 October Collection at the Clark County Museum now holds over 22,000 artifacts—each one a piece of our community’s response, resilience, and love after the Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting.

These artifacts, carefully cataloged and photographed, help tell the story of how Las Vegas came together in the face of unimaginable loss. You can now explore this powerful collection online and see the photographs and records for yourself.

We are thrilled to announce that Girl Scout Troop 518 has installed a brand-new Little Library at Clark County Museum! Huge thanks to these amazing girls for their hard work, dedication, and community spirit—they truly went above and beyond to make this project a reality.

You heard it here first: Movie Night at the Museum is coming November 7! 🎬

We’re screening Howard Hughes’s 1952 film "The Las Vegas Story" outdoors at the Clark County Museum. The movie starts at 7 pm, so start thinking about which friends you’ll bring—and which blankets and chairs you’ll bring for outdoor flick viewing.

Tickets are $20, with proceeds supporting our effort to relocate and restore Hughes’s historic Green House to the museum.
