At Sulphur Creek Nature Center we do all sorts of enrichment for our animals. Hamsters love seeds and recently in our Seed Search nature class, our resident hamster - Chocolate Chip, went on his own seed search in the magnetile mazes that the class participants created!

Reptile Rally was a success! 🐍 Hosted by Sulphur Creek Nature Center in partnership with the Bay Area Herpetological Society, the event welcomed 300+ visitors to get up close with reptiles and learn about their amazing adaptations.

Guests met a radiated tortoise, an 80-pound boa constrictor, a blue-tongued skink and the Eastern Indigo snake—the longest snake in North America. Visitors even had the chance to hold snakes and pet tortoises!

Happy Earth Day 🌿

Right now, this Anna’s hummingbird is sitting on her nest—woven from soft plant fibers, spider silk, and bits of moss, perfectly hidden in a tree in our garden.
It’s a reminder to slow down and notice the small, incredible lives happening all around us.
Take a moment today to look a little closer. The Earth is full of quiet magic.

Flying into 2026🕊️
This Cedar Waxwing was our final wildlife release of last year. It arrived unable to fly, but after a little TLC from our naturalists, it was ready to soar again.

Cedar Waxwings are winter visitors to the Bay Area and one of the only U.S. birds that live mostly on fruit.

In 2025, Sulphur Creek’s Wildlife Program cared for over 250 injured and orphaned animals. 💚

Exciting updates are coming to the Sulphur Creek Nature Center! Since 2021, we've added an outdoor classroom, amphitheater, new paths, and signage; thanks to OEEF, Measure F1, and community donors. Now, with a new parcel added and plans for the Discovery Museum underway, we’re updating the master plan to reflect what’s next.

Come to our #1 Visioning Workshop during our CAC Meeting on Monday, 6/9/25, at 6:30 pm at the District Office or join via zoom.

Crazy about animals? Kids ages 6-12 can join our Pocket Pet Academy and learn how to be a responsible pet parent. You will learn how to properly take care of a pet and even get to hold one of our animals! This Sunday's topic is Mammals, and later this month we'll cover Reptiles.
