For years I've taught Drawing Without Fear to help adults rediscover the joy of drawing.
Lately, though, I've been thinking about how our lives revolve around screens, and how we no longer use some of the skills that keep our minds engaged. We hear a lot about the benefits of handwriting instead of typing because it activates our brains in different ways.
What about drawing?
When we draw, we're doing so much more than making lines on paper. We're observing, making decisions, coordinating our eyes and hands, solving little visual puzzles, and paying attention in ways that are becoming increasingly rare. It's one of those wonderful activities that asks our brains, our hands, and our imagination to work together.
I still believe drawing should be fun. I still believe anyone can learn. But I've come to realize that every time we sit down with a pencil and really look at the world around us, we're giving ourselves something valuable. We're slowing down, becoming more observant, exercising our minds, and creating something with our own hands.
So Drawing Without Fear has a renewed purpose. Yes, you'll learn to draw. More importantly, you'll rediscover the pleasure of seeing, creating, and thinking in a way that's becoming increasingly uncommon.
No pressure. No perfection. Just pencils, paper, curiosity, and the joy of waking up a part of yourself that has been there all along.

Touching on "seeing what the artist sees", this class covers realistic drawing techniques and composition. Through one on one instruction, drawing is demystified making it easy and rewarding. This class is taught with patience, encouragement and humor with the practical goal that you will enjoy drawing for the rest of your life.

What if drawing could do more than teach your child how to make a picture?

Drawing is a powerful workout for the developing brain. When children draw, they are not simply moving a pencil across a page. They are observing, processing visual information, making decisions, solving problems, coordinating their eyes and hands, and turning what they see into something of their own.

In these classes, children practice these skills every time they sit down to draw. They learn to slow down, look closely, notice details, think through challenges, and stay with a task until they achieve a result.

These experiences help strengthen important areas of cognitive development, including:

Focus and sustained attention
Visual-spatial reasoning
Observation and visual intelligence

Designed for students in 3rd - 12th grade. Learn to illustrate like a professional Perspective, shading, tone and line are all important tools every artist needs and never too young to learn. We will explore develop drawing and color illustration techniques to get realistic affects.

About the Instructor:
Kristine's education and experience in illustration and composition bring an original style, sensitivity, and craftsmanship to her work. She has offered numerous workshops in art centers and galleries and has a studio in Hastings Nebraska.
She has won numerous awards and exhibitions including Nebraska Arts Council, Longwell Museum, Bone Creek Museum of Agrarian Art and the Museum of Nebraska Art, She was featured in the April 2016 issue of Art and Architecture Magazine as an emerging artist to watch. Her work has been purchased for use on Hollywood movie sets, corporations, hospitals and private collectors as far away as Canada and Sri Lanka.
She and her family reside in the Hastings Nebraska where she finds inspiration in the always changing seasons, native grasses and vast prairie landscapes
