📜 Sentimental Sunday from the Grifton Historical Museum 📜

Check out these grocery prices from The Grifton Times, February 21, 1974…

🥓 Bacon – 99¢/lb
🥚 Eggs – 79¢/dozen
🍊 Oranges – 59¢ for a 5 lb bag
🥩 Round steak – $1.49/lb

And the headline reads:
“Taste Buds Change As Food Prices Soar…”

Seems like some things never change! 👀

What felt expensive then feels like a steal today—and it makes you wonder what today’s prices will look like 50 years from now.

💬 What’s something you remember buying “back in the day” that shocks you when you see the price now?

Come see more snapshots of everyday life through the years at the Grifton Historical Museum—where even a grocery ad tells a story!

📰 A Special Piece of Grifton History! 📰

Take a look at this incredible Centennial Edition of The Grifton Times from February 24, 1983—celebrating Grifton’s 100th birthday! This historic issue is filled with stories that trace our roots from Bell’s Ferry to the town we know and love today.

A huge thank you to The Daily Reflector for providing the museum with these original copies of The Grifton Times. Pieces like this help us preserve and share the story of our community for future generations.

We’d also like to give special recognition to Mitchell Oakley, who authored the article “From Bell’s Ferry to Grifton.” His work captured such an important part of our history, and we are proud to say he remains a wonderful friend of the Grifton Historical Museum today.

The Grifton Historical Museum is open today until 5:00 PM—we’d love to have you stop by and explore Grifton’s past.
