East End Seaport Museum and Marine Foundation

East End Seaport Museum and Marine Foundation Sharing local maritime history on tours of Long Beach Bar "Bug" Light and at the Seaport Museum In Greenport, we operate the East End Seaport Museum on the waterfront with its maritime exhibits and collections.

Our blacksmith conducts demonstrations of iron working with hands-on experiences for children at the Village Blacksmith Shop. Offshore - we own, operate, and maintain the historic Long Beach Bar (Bug) Lighthouse. Bug Light is the gateway to Greenport, Shelter Island, and Peconic Bay and we are proud to be the stewards of this working navigational structure.

Operating as usual

Study of Plum Island waters finds lots of life, no human impact - The Suffolk Times

Great Effort. Looking forward to seeing the results.

Outlined against a powder blue sky, two terns swirled in a light breeze over the waters surrounding the north side of Plum Island. The two birds were obvious. Less obvious was the abundance of life under them. To appreciate that, all one had to do was plunge below the surface, like four scientists d...

We had great time with Dave and Ben of Southold Bay Oysters last night on our Oyster Cruise! We learned about the history of the industry, and its resurgence in the last 10 years. We learned that you can hold a million baby oysters in one hand, that oysters help to filter our local waterways of Nitrogen, and that the thickness of the shell is often related to the depth of water they are kept in. We are so excited for the next cruise which will be posted in the coming week.
.
Thank you to all who came out and who continue to support our Mission of preserving the maritime history of Greenport! 🙏🏼⚓️🦪

Pictures from after I did a lighthouse tour at the Long Beach Bar Lighthouse and I went outside of the lantern room and took some pictures......
Hello everyone I received my bobblehead yesterday and thought it fit the general theme of the group. His name is Captain LI Sounder. I hope you all enjoy this but day.
Check out video on Cornell Cooperative Extension's new shellfish hatchery.
When we did our seal watching lighthouse tours later on in the year this is the sight the passengers saw when we were heading back to dock after the tour was over......a really wonderful way to end a tour with a pretty view of the Long Beach Bar Light at sunset.
Wishing all our Members and all the people I worked with during our Lighthouse Tour season a very Happy Thanksgiving this year. I know this year has been rough especially with the virus and all the limits on functions that we had to put up with, but even in these times we have to think of everything we have to be thankful for. So from this Lighthouse descendant and East End Seaport Tour Guide wishing everyone a very Happy and Safe Thanksgiving.

I would like to wish all the Hard Working People at the East End Seaport Museum a very Happy Holiday Season. I really enjoy being the lead narrator for our lighthouse tours but the work the museum people do setting up these tours is outstanding. My job is simple compared to theirs, I give the tour but all the work setting up the tours are set up by the workers in the museum, for example checking messages, accepting lighthouse tour reservations and setting up the tours. The people in the museum do a fantastic job and its really an honor to work with all of them. So to all of them I wish a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful, prosperous and Healthy 2020.
The Kayak Contest Committee would like to thank: Prestons, Mills, North Fork Welding and Kevin Mcelroy for their support, sponsorship, and donations to help make this year's Maritime Festival event such a success. Thank you!
Thank you Robert Jester ! The boys had a great time! Tina Goldsmith Quarty
