September is rolling in with the last taste of summer and the first hints of fall at the National Railroad Museum! Here's what's ahead this month:

History After Dark: Behind the Scenes Tours return on September 8th and 15th, offering visitors the chance to see non-public areas of the museum.

All aboard our annual Dinner Train fundraiser on September 10th and 17th, with great food and beverages expertly crafted by Iron Duck Restaurant.

Our final Family Days event of 2026 takes place on Tuesday, September 15th, offering free daily admission to those 62+!

Want to help bring The Polar Express™ Train Ride to life? Join us for our The Polar Express™ Train Ride Casting Call | Volunteer Cast Open House on Tuesday, September 15th!

Celebrate 920 Day: daily admission is being reduced to just $9.20 for all patrons on Sunday, September 20th!

SPARK! Creative Engagement Programs: Dining On The Rails comes back on September 21st, offering programming for those with memory loss and their care partners.

THE DINNER TRAIN MENU HAS ARRIVED: An evening aboard our annual Dinner Train fundraiser is unlike anything else at the National Railroad Museum. A rare chance to dine in your choice of our historic rail cars as the sun sets, with a five-course menu crafted exclusively for the occasion by Iron Duck Restaurant.

COURSE ONE: Fall Heirloom Salad with Berbere Spice Vinaigrette, Roasted Pepitas
COURSE TWO: Peruvian Shrimp Ceviche, Spiced Sweet Potato Chip

Welcome back to another episode of , our weekly journey through the archives as we celebrate 70 Years of Legacy in Motion!

This aerial shot from the 1970s captures the newly completed Victor McCormick Train Pavilion, nestled along the Fox River. Built to shelter rolling stock outdoors while still protecting it from the elements, the pavilion quickly became a defining feature of the Museum's grounds—and it's still home to some of our favorite pieces today. Recently, the Pavilion was updated with new LED lighting, and the stock inside shines brighter than ever after a good cleaning!

Over 50 years later, the pavilion continues to welcome visitors who want to get an up-close look at history, rain or shine.

As we celebrate 70 Years of Legacy in Motion in 2026, we're looking back at the milestones that shaped the Museum — and the pavilion's completion is one worth remembering.

This Women's Equality Day, we're sharing a photograph from our collection: women loading flatcars with tree bark, circa 1918.

Wisconsin's bark trade — tied closely to the state's tanning industry — depended heavily on rail transport, and photos like this one remind us that women were part of that everyday labor, not just in headline moments, but in the physical work that kept industry and railroads running.
