Happy Friday fam!

Lots to get into this weekend — Chicago Fashion Week kicked off yesterday and has events all across the city to tap into. Hit up CFC for all the fine details.

Spectrum Chicago is happening at Merchandise Mart for all things Black Art, make sure you check out Pigment International as they are celebrating Black Fine Art Month.

Chicago Textile Fair is on for all you fiber based baddies, and DCASE is hosting a Healing Arts Summit with loads of free workshops and events, and Filipinx is celebrating Filipino food, arts and culture.

New work “As the container uncoils” by Chicago based artist, and recent Yale graduate, Erol Scott Harris in view at Gertie in Chicago for Office Hours.

Harris was the inaugural Artist in Residence at Gertie and brought his unique sculptural linoleum paintings to life through installation and performance.

In case you missed it, visual artist, Nikki Washington dipped his toes into fashion design in the late Summer with Marc Nolan (Marc Nolan) a brand specializing in leather goods.

Washington created a special edition shoe — the Axe, an men’ Oxford shoe with a off center zipper closure and the unisex large black leather tote — the Kit, which is fit for an artist or creative on the go.

New work by Chicago based artist, Reevah Agarwaal (Reevah) — “In Another World We Were Friends,” which is on view in the artist’s solo exhibition, Now I Braid My Own Hair, at Boundary (Susannah Papish, Director, boundary).

Using repurposed found textiles with personal histories, Agarwaal creates quilts and collages referencing her childhood, relationships, and the domestic spaces she has lived in. Agarwaal is from New Delhi, India and often references places and experiences from her upbringing. Through her work, she also aims to reconstruct and reclaim narratives of women and girls by employing material history, intuition, and memory.

The exhibition is on view through October 10.

Tap into a little art with Naomi Projects featuring a new exhibition from Amanda Harth at the Design Museum, a new print exhibition at the Social Justice Gallery and a new exhibition at the Beverly Arts Center curated by Elephant Gallery’s Kimberly Leja Atwood.

Toast to the end of Summer with The Goody Vault at Easy Does It, or get into some jazz at the Hyde Park Jazz Fest or the Dimo’s Block Party.

Check out these recent works by Sacramento based artist Alexi G. Orduño.

Beginning as a tattoo artist, Orduño is a self taught painter who has been painting intimate snapshots of people and places that shape his Mexican-American identity, and life growing up in North Sacramento. His paintings have become known for their distinctive blank faces, nostalgic references and unique textured painting style featuring family memories, small details of urban life, and a series of black jaguars.

Happy Weekend fam! Saturday is the new Friday 👏🏽

Lots of music taking over the city this weekend with the Navy Pier Festival with Common headlining and some familiar faces like Shawnee Dez! Kopano is also performing at the riverwalk this weekend and Principal Barbers is hosting an homage to the music of Stevie Wonder. Sharmon Jarmon headlines Stomping Grounds’s monthly open mic and DJs are sprinkled throughout.

Southside is all about art this weekend as Blanc Gallery and the Arts Incubator both open new exhibitions. And Chicago exhibition weekend comes to a close with artist talks, one of which features our lovely Working From the Hoxton artist in residence Jairo Granados Cardenas in conversation with Yvette Mayorga at Monique Meloche.
