RNAC Beaux Arts Ball 2026 CANCELLED

After careful consideration of a few challenges, the Beaux Arts Ball Committee, in consultation with Patrick Hurd, proprietor of 51 Rocky Neck Restaurant, has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2026 Beaux Arts Ball.

We sincerely regret this decision and apologize for any disappointment it may cause. All ticket holders will receive a full refund.

More or Less brings together four artists—Willie Alexander, Joan Mullen, Martin Sorger, and Julia Talcott—working across painting, printmaking, and sculpture.

What happens when an artist chooses to show more—or less? Across distinct materials and approaches, these artists explore the tension between abundance and restraint, revelation and suggestion. Together, the works invite viewers to look closely at what is included, what is left out, and how much can be said with just enough.

Join Rocky Neck Art Colony for a lively conversation with five artists featured in ‘Making an Impression: Traditional Techniques, Contemporary Vision’, moderated by Stacy Vickory-Thomas, Dean of Academic Affairs at Montserrat College of Art who participated in RNAC’s exhibition ‘We Hold These Truths...American Stories’.

Bringing together artists from Cape Ann and beyond, this panel will explore the rich and varied language of printmaking—from time-honored processes and techniques to innovative contemporary approaches. The artists will share insights into their creative practices, inspirations, and the ways they use printmaking to explore ideas, experiment with materials, and create new visual possibilities.

The discussion will consider what makes printmaking such a dynamic and enduring medium, as well as how artists today are expanding its traditions and challenging expectations. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear firsthand about the ideas, processes, and experiences behind the works on view in ‘Making an Impression’.

Whether you are an artist, an admirer of printmaking, or simply curious about the creative process, this conversation offers an intimate look at the people and ideas behind the exhibition—and the vitality of printmaking today.

2026 Trails and Sails Historic Walking Tour of Rocky Neck

Rocky Neck Art Colony is excited to participate in this year’s Trails and Sails event. Join us for a historic walking tour of Rocky Neck covering the rich history of Rocky Neck Art Colony and showcasing the many artists who worked here, especially from the late nineteenth century to today. Artists such as Edward Hopper, Winslow Homer, Augustus Buhler, John Sloan, Theresa Bernstein, Stuart Davis, and Emile Gruppe found artistic inspiration and community in this peninsula.

Discover the magic when individual objects, no matters how similar or different, are joined into an entirely new work at the Cove Gallery in Rocky Neck.

The act of assembly reveals, to the artist, new forms, new relationships of color and shape. Perhaps another unit can be placed over here, or a new piece added there, giving a fresh and unexpected whole. These works by five Rocky Neck Art Colony members — David Covert, Brian Murphy, Marion Powers, Judy Robinson-Cox, and Beth Williams — explore assemblage, in its broadest sense.

Using materials ranging from wire, corrugated cardboard, reclaimed wood and hardware, to toy figures, rocks, and recycled flameworked glass the pieces become, in the hands of the contributing artists, surprising and delightful 3-D works.

2026 GEOTEMANN ARTIST RESIDENT
Fiona Brehony: GAR Environmental/Installation Artist

What can water remember? What stories are held within a harbor, a river, or an ocean, and whose stories are we able to hear? These questions are at the heart of the work of artist and writer Fiona Brehony, the current Goetemann Artist-in-Residence (GAR) at Rocky Neck Art Colony. Based in Manchester, England, Brehony works across moving image, sound, and performance, collaborating with scientists, composers, historians, and communities to create poetic and inquisitive works exploring the relationships between people, places, and waterways.

During her residency, Brehony is exploring Gloucester Harbor as both a natural ecosystem and human-made infrastructure. Her work includes a collaboration with Ocean Alliance, drawing on its extensive archive of whale song to consider the harbor and ocean as living systems and archives—holding ecological history, community memory, and traces of the ways human and non-human lives intersect.
