On Thursday, September 24th, 2026, the Mission Room at the Olive Hyde Art Gallery came alive with color and creativity during an inspiring Dot Mandala workshop led by local artist Kanchan. Known for her passion and love for experimenting with new art forms, Kanchan introduced participants to the soothing world of mandala making—a practice celebrated for encouraging mindfulness and offering a wonderful stress-busting creative escape.

The morning began with a hands-on warmup as Kanchan guided everyone to practice dot-making on thoughtfully provided “experiment” surfaces using circular tools of various sizes. An array of acrylic paints allowed each maker to discover their own unique palette before tackling the main project: a black ceramic planter pot.

Participants thoroughly enjoyed crafting their own intricate patterns, supported by Kanchan’s helpful tips on spacing dots and comfortably handling the pots while painting. To complete their creations, a final seal of protective weather spray was applied.

By the end of the session, everyone left with a beautiful, custom planter reflecting their personal style and aesthetic. A few enthusiastic participants even planted succulents in theirs right away, bringing a joyful, living finish to an unforgettable creative morning!

We had a fantastic turnout for the Artists' Reception at the 56th Annual Textile Exhibition! The exhibit runs until October 3, so you have plenty of time to check out the artwork from 45+ textile artists.

The Gallery is open Thursday-Sunday, 12-5.

Congratulations to our 2026 Scholarship Award winners!

At the Scholarship Reception on May 15, 2026, our seven scholarship finalists shared selections from their portfolios, giving attendees a chance to experience their work up close and connect with these emerging and talented young artists.

Artistic Merit ($250 art supplies gift certificate), High School: Catherine Chen, Mission San Jose High School.

Artistic Merit ($250 art supplies gift certificate), Ohlone College: Alka Sinha.

Artistic Excellence ($500 Scholarship), High School: Emily Huang, Mission San Jose High School.

Artistic Excellence ($500 Scholarship), Ohlone College: Eunie Kim.

Jan Schafir Memorial Scholarship ($1000 Scholarship): Anna Vu, Moreau Catholic High School.

Outstanding Artistic Talent ($2000 Scholarship), High School: Hope Chon, Irvington High School. Additionally, her teacher Summer Jones was the recipient of a $500 award for their classroom art supplies.

The City of Fremont’s Olive Hyde Art Gallery is proud to present its 2026 open biennial exhibition Hidden Treasures, Local Talent. Held every two years, this community-focused exhibition invites artists of all ages and experience levels to participate, celebrating the diverse creative voices within the community.

This year, the Olive Hyde Art Gallery received more than double the number of submissions compared to 2024. The exceptional level of artistic talent and creativity within the community is truly remarkable, making the selection process this year especially competitive. From more than 120 applicants, 60 artists were selected to showcase their work. Of those selected artists, 26 are Olive Hyde Art Guild members.

The exhibition highlights a wide range of mediums, including ceramic, textiles, watercolor, oil and acrylic painting, printmaking, mixed media, and more. The artwork will explore a variety of themes and subjects, ensuring there will be something to inspire everyone.

Paths and waterways appear throughout this body of work as a metaphor for our introspective journeys. In a fast-paced world, her collection offers peaceful respite – a “space to linger, to breathe, and to rediscover the quiet power of stillness and light”.
