June 13, 2026 Barnstormers Tour

Do you enjoy Maryland History? Do you love Frederick History? Are you interested in supporting historic preservation in our community? You like barns? Have you always enjoyed the Barnstormers Tour? Maybe this is the year you decide to experience the Tour from the inside and become a docent!!

We are seeking people willing to be Barn Docents! If you are interested, please sign up by using the following link:

https://tinyurl.com/4ux989zb

We ask that Barn Docents attend at least one of our training sessions so we can assign you to a barn you have visited. Training is a fabulous experience! You get to see the barns through the eyes of barn guru Dean Fitzgerald. Training days are in the morning and finish by noon so your afternoons will be free. Training sessions are scheduled for the following dates and times:

*Saturday, May 30 (8 a.m. -12 noon.)

*Saturday, June 6 (8 a.m. - 12 noon)

Thank you for supporting Frederick County Landmarks Foundation and the Barnstormers Tour. This event would not be possible without the support and dedication of our volunteers.

Further information about the tour, and some upcoming related events, can be found at https://www.fredericklandmarks.org/barnstormers

Thank you for your time!

And, while we'd loved for you to become a docent, if this isn't the right role for you, we hope to see you as an attendee.

Mary K. Mannix, President, 2026-2027, Frederick County Landmarks Foundation

Enjoy a self-guided tour of local barns and observe plein-air painters in a different section of Frederick County each year. After the tour enjoy food, music, and an art sale.

Being it is International Midwives' Day, you might be interested in learning more about the profession and life of midwives around 1800 in southeastern Pennsylvania. Rosina Heydrich, a midwife and member of the Schwenkfelder community in the Upper Perkiomen Valley, kept a registry of 1,739 births she attended between the years 1770 and 1819. Her manuscript also served as a compendium of specific remedies, treatments, and recommendations for women’s health that she used. Today you can read it on the PA Power Library (digitalarchives.powerlibrary.org/papd/islandora/object/papd%3Asslch-sdsa). The translation and work to ready the manuscript for Power Library was supported by a grant from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission's Historical Archives and Records Care Grant, a program funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
