On July 3rd, as America commemorated its 250th anniversary, the Franklin community proudly honored the 24 Revolutionary War soldiers buried in Franklin cemeteries during a special dedication ceremony recognizing their service and sacrifice.
The event brought together residents, veterans, historians, elected officials, and descendants to pay tribute to the men whose courage and commitment helped secure the freedoms we enjoy today. Through inspiring remarks from guest speakers, patriotic music, and the dedication of monument and commemorative markers, attendees reflected on the enduring legacy of those who answered the call for independence nearly 250 years ago.
The ceremony served as a reminder that history is not only preserved in textbooks but also in the communities where these patriots lived, worked, raised families, and were ultimately laid to rest. Their stories continue to connect Franklin to the founding of our nation and inspire future generations to value service, sacrifice, and civic responsibility.
This dedication was made possible through the efforts of dedicated volunteers, the Franklin Railroad and Community Museum, veterans' groups, local officials, community members and Mr. Laing's Franklin history class at Franklin Central School, who worked together to ensure these Revolutionary War soldiers receive the recognition they so richly deserve.
As our nation celebrates America's 250th anniversary, Franklin proudly remembers and honors these 24 patriots, preserving their legacy and reaffirming our commitment to keeping their stories alive for generations to come.
