There's still time to see "The Presence of Poe: The Life & Legacy of a Literary Icon" at the Yager Museum. How timely that openculture just posted a clip of the Simpson's iconic Treehouse of Horror episode featuring a reading of Poe's "The Raven"

The Simpsons has mocked or referenced literature over its many seasons, usually through a book Lisa was reading, or with guest appearances (e.g., Michael Chabon & Jonathan Franzen, Maya Angelou and Amy Tan).

We were thrilled this week to host the spring meeting of BOCES Arts in Education coordinators at the Museum. Curator Quentin Lewis and Director Doug Kendall gave the group a tour of the Museum before their business meeting. It was great to have the opportunity to share the Museum exhibits and information about Hartwick with these educators from across New York State.

We had an AMAZING time at last week's Spring Break Arts Camp. We made pictures out of post-it notes, learned about dinosaurs and fossils, made puppets and sculptures out of cardboard and duct tape, played interesting instruments, drew and colored a ton of pictures, and a whole lot more! Thanks to all the kids and all the parents for being so great, and thanks to our great Hartwick students and staff for making such an unforgettable week.

It's been quite a week at The Yager, as Hartwick's first Spring Break Arts Camp, co-sponsored with the Music Department, has brought two-dozen local children to the Museum and the Anderson Arts Center to explore and create. Today, the Museum's Curator, Dr. Quentin Lewis, talked about some of the ceramics in the Museum collection and then the campers went to work creating their own pottery. One more day, culminating in a visit to the Peep Show at Anderson - where the campers' sculptures made of Peeps will be on view along with lots of other Peeps-artworks. The Spring Arts Camp is made possible in part to a grant from the Community Foundation of Otsego County.

The Museum will be closed starting March 14 for Hartwick College's Spring Break. When we reopen on Tuesday, March 23, it will be spring! Our latest exhibition, "The Presence of Poe" continues. On March 28th, we'll screen the documentary "Museum Town" about the creation of the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MassMOCA). And in April we'll be presenting the Spring Arts Camp during the public school vacation. See you soon!
