Indigenous Peoples Day, Monday, October 12, the Museum will be open from 11:30 to 4:30, a great day to visit with our artist-in-residence, Melanie Printup Hope, who's working on a new installation as part of the Phil Young Residency for Indigenous Art.

It was great to see Ethan and his classmates create the "Discovering Our Place" exhibit, as they developed the concept, sourced the artifacts, and then put the story on the walls of the Yager.

The Museum is delighted to announce that in October, we will be welcoming Melanie Printup Hope as our inaugural artist-in-residence for the Phil Young Residency in Indigenous Art.

From October 5th through October 16th, Melanie will be finishing and installing "My Ancestors in the Sky World", a mixed media piece in the Museum, as well as engaging with and educating students and visitors while she works. She will also be running a beading workshop on October 10th, and we will hold a formal reception for her work on October 15th.

The residency honors the legacy of Phil Young (1947-2025), who taught art at Hartwick for over 35 years, and was a champion of Indigenous art, life, culture, and community at Hartwick.

The Museum is open for Fall Semester Hours: Tuesday-Saturday, 11:30-4:30. We'll be open for the same hourse on Monday, October 12, in observance of Indigenous Peoples Day. The Museum is closed during Hartwick College's break from October 17-20 and during the Thanksgiving Recess, from November 21 through November 30. We've got a full schedule of events and programs lined up, starting with our newest exhibition, "The Four Seasons: Selections from the Yager Museum Collections."

It's always great working with Hartwick students who take Museum Studies courses, help create exhibitions and programs at The Yager and then intern at great museums all over the country. We were thrilled to see Quinn Francis '27 featured in Hartwick's recent Hawks in Flight article on 2026 interns. Quinn worked this summer at the Fenimore Art Museum, with the collections management staff. Noelle Mulik '27 also interned at Fenimore Art Museum, Madeline Spencer '27 interned across the street at Fenimore Farm and Country Village and Jamie Liu-Silverstein '27 interned at the Stamford History Center. These real-world experiences have been an essential part of Hartwick's Museum Studies program for over a quarter-century. We're looking forward to having these students back on campus soon to do more great work at The Yager!

Hartwick College students take their talents beyond the classroom, diving into internships that sharpen their skills, expand their networks, and shape their futures.
