The National Juneteenth Museum is honored to welcome former First Lady Michelle Obama for a special installment of our Uniting Voices Speaker Series on October 7 at 6:00 p.m. CT at the Fort Worth Convention Center.

Moderated by Matrice Ellis-Kirk, the conversation will take place on an extraordinary day for the National Juneteenth Museum as we celebrate the 100th birthday of Dr. Opal Lee, the Grandmother of Juneteenth, and mark a defining new chapter in the Museum’s journey.

Earlier that day, NJM will host Clearing the Way, marking the transition of the Museum’s future site toward construction.

Opal Lee has been named the recipient of the 2026 Dr. John E. Fleming Award, the Association of African American Museums’ highest honor✨

Presented during the AAAM | EMP 2026 Keynote Awards Luncheon, the award recognizes individuals whose lifelong contributions have advanced and preserved African and Black American history and culture.

For decades, Dr. Lee has inspired generations through her unwavering advocacy, helping ensure the story of Juneteenth is remembered, celebrated, and shared across the nation.

From legendary voices to unforgettable singalongs, Freedom Vibes 2026 reminded us that music has always been one of the ways freedom sounds.
