At Las Olas Capital Arts, we love and deeply appreciate the opportunity to partner with fellow nonprofit organizations that share our commitment to strengthening our community through art, education, culture, and meaningful connections.

We believe that when organizations come together, we can create opportunities that reach farther, inspire more people, and make a lasting impact. One of the partnerships we are especially proud of is our collaboration with the Urban League of Broward County through Artful Youth.

Artful Youth is a community-driven initiative providing young adults and middle school students throughout Broward County with access to creative education, fine arts instruction, mentorship, and cultural experiences.

Founded by Jodi Jeffreys-Tanner, Las Olas Capital Arts works alongside the Urban League of Broward County and the Southside Cultural Arts Center to bring professional artists and hands-on creative experiences directly to young people.

Artful Youth is about more than creating art. Students participate in structured group activities and mentorship in a welcoming and supportive environment where they can build confidence, communication skills, teamwork, and self-expression. Complimentary lunches also provide an opportunity for students to connect and build community.

At Las Olas Capital Arts, we believe art has the power to open doors, build confidence, connect communities, and inspire young people to imagine what is possible.

We are especially grateful for the generous support of Wayne and Lucretia Weiner, whose sponsorship has helped make these summer and year-round opportunities possible.

🎨 ARTIST SPOTLIGHT 🔦

Danielle Jadusingh, also known as DJ-Laoshi [dee-jay lao-sih], a Las Olas Capital Arts collective member is a multidisciplinary artist, teacher, writer, and researcher.
For Danielle, art is the visual conduit through which she shares her narratives, experiences, and perspectives with the world.

✨ TEXTILE EXPRESSIONS AS 2D ART ✨
A collaboration with 9 Muses Art Center is Danielle’s upcoming exhibition, “Textile Expressions as 2D Art,” taking place at Peter Coccuza Gallery, located at:
📍 7139 W Oakland Park Blvd.
Lauderhill, FL 33313
📅 September 17 – October 16, 2026

is a compilation of abstract works created during a nine-week workshop exploring the possibilities of bringing techniques traditionally associated with fiber arts onto canvas.

The workshop created an open and welcoming space where participants could connect, share stories, experiment, and explore their individual creative journeys.
Through textiles, embroidery, painting, and organic shapes, the artists were encouraged to approach art as a meditative and experimental practice—a way to reflect their inner worlds and express themselves without limitations.
There was no expectation to create the same artwork or follow a single path. Instead, each participant was invited to experiment with the materials, trust the process, and discover where their creativity would lead.
The result is a collection of unique works that celebrate individual expression, exploration, and the freedom to create—regardless of skill level. 🧵🎨✨

Come experience “Textile Expressions as 2D Art” and discover how fiber-inspired techniques can become an entirely new visual language on canvas.

TBT- Artful Youth: Where Art Meets Education 🎨📚

The Las Olas Capital Arts Artful Youth Program goes far beyond creating art. While hands-on creativity is at the heart of our program, we also believe that education, culture, and new experiences are vital to the growth and development of our young adults.

That’s why, this summer, in between all of our inspiring art workshops, we incorporated educational field trips that allowed our participants to learn, explore, and experience the history and culture of our community.

One of those special experiences was an exclusive guided tour of the Historic Stranahan House Museum, Fort Lauderdale’s oldest surviving home.

This is where it all began. The Stranahan House holds the story of a family, a house, and the birth of a city.

Our Artful Youth participants had the opportunity to step back in time, discover Fort Lauderdale’s history, and connect what they learned to the community they call home.

And the best part? They went home feeling like winners—with new lessons learned, wonderful memories made, and a fun day shared with their peers. ❤️

At Las Olas Capital Arts, we believe that when we give young people opportunities to create, learn, explore, and dream, we help open doors to a brighter future.

🎨 Art inspires. Education empowers. Experiences transform.

Today’s shout-out goes to our neighbors and friends at Carroll’s Jewelers, a Fort Lauderdale tradition since 1928.

For generations, they have been a destination for exceptional fine jewelry, engagement rings, and bespoke custom designs.

At the jeweler’s bench, sculpture becomes intimate. Jewelers don’t simply shape metal and stone—they compose pieces meant to live, move, and breathe alongside the human form. Every creation tells a story, reflects craftsmanship, and becomes part of someone’s life.

Take a walk and visit Carroll’s Jewelers, where exceptional craftsmanship meets warm, personalized customer service.

Support our local neighbors and discover something beautiful right here in on Las Olas Blvd. 💍✨

ART13 Presents:
FALL OF FREEDOM
curated by South Florida artists and activists Frank Polanco and Vicki Rosenthal.

FALL OF FREEDOM is a three-day community arts event celebrating creative expression while standing in support of free speech, artistic freedom, and civic engagement.

Through film, visual art, literature, and conversation, artists and community members are invited to come together, share ideas, and make their voices heard.

This community event is created to raise our collective voices through art. We are joining a nationwide, artist-led creative resistance movement that brings artists and communities together to stand against authoritarianism, censorship, and threats to free expression.

Open to the public, FALL OF FREEDOM will feature a curated series of exhibitions, film screening, literary events, artist talks, and live art experiences that inspire dialogue, reflection, and action.

Local artists are invited to participate through an open Call for Artists as well as Live Painting sessions throughout the weekend. This is an opportunity for artists, activists, and community members to come together, express themselves creatively, and make their voices heard, united as one.

Art has always been a powerful force for change. Together, we can create, connect, and remind one another that freedom of expression is worth protecting.

Everyone is welcome.

Meet Kelly Merkur — one of 40+ South Florida artists LOCA has featured in at least one of our many events.

For Kelky art has always been the thread running through her life.
As a child in Texas and Oklahoma, she was drawn to fabric stores, color, and the quiet magic of turning raw materials into something expressive. That early fascination shaped the way she sees the world and continues to guide her work today.
After earning a BFA in Fiber Art and Textile Design from The University of Kansas, she began her career in textiles, learning the discipline of pattern, scale, and color balance.
Life shifted when she stepped away to raise her two daughters, but creativity never left me. When she returned to painting, it felt less like starting over and more like coming home.
Now based in Nashville, she paints with a deeper sense of clarity and confidence. Her work reflects where she is in life.
Strong, feminine, layered, and unapologetically vibrant.
Each piece is an expression of joy and resilience, created to bring warmth and personality into the spaces it inhabits.

Here you will see some of her pieces.
