A big shout out to Eagle Scout candidate Timothy Frisco Malin (shown at top right), a senior at Stafford High School, and volunteers from Boy Scout Troop #170 built a raised walkway along a washed-out section of our woodland trails. We are so thankful to Timothy and all the volunteers for their hard work and for this important trail improvement! 🏆

A big welcome to Catelyn "Caty" Taylor, UMW class of 2027, as our inaugural Ethel Chrisman '48 Scholarship Intern. Majoring in History and American Studies with a minor in Museum Studies, Caty will work with curation, collections care, education, historic preservation, membership, events, and visitor services to experience how departments work together to fulfill the museum’s mission.

Our site was featured by the National Trust for Historic Preservation for Dear Diary Day. The diary Gari Melchers kept while painting President Theodore Roosevelt's portrait in 1908 reveals detailed information about his painting process and day-to-day activities as the president's guest.

The nearly 1,000-year-old Bayeux Tapestry, now on loan from France to the British Museum in London, tells the story of William the Conqueror’s 1066 invasion of England.

Gari and Corinne Melchers owned this beautiful piece of pottery inspired by the Bayeux Tapestry, made by French ceramist Louis-Étienne Desmant.

The large vase is part of our collection and can be seen in the historic house museum at Belmont. Come take a look! 🏺

Dr. Lynn brought his University of Mary Washington Plant Ecology students to Belmont this morning to conduct pollinator observation fieldwork. Lucky for us we have plenty of 🐝 and 🦋 in our native grassland fields. We look forward to watching what these students discover this semester.
