Our last new book from The Marion County History Museum. The Devils Tea Tables written by Mack Samples. $13

In the spirit of Chaucerโ€™s famed Canterbury Tales, West Virginia writer Mack Samples has produced an entertaining gem with his latest book, The Devilโ€™s Tea Tables. The author has created a busload of gregarious travelers who share their strange and ghostly tales as they traverse the West Virginia hills. The stories tell about all kinds of strange dealings, some with horse traders, disturbed graves, kind hobos, vanishing moonshine, and fiddle-playing preachers. Many of the stories the author heard growing up along the Elk River. Sit back and read some mysterious tales about bygone days in the hills of West Virginia.
Sounds like a wonderful read. Please stop by the museum at 211 Adams St. Fairmont or call 304-367-5398 to have them send you copy for just $5 shipping fee.
Donโ€™t forget we also have many copies of the Telltale Lilac Bush and Coffin Hollow that are staple reads for this area.
We at the museum appreciate the citizens that help to support us.

Lies, Lore and Gossip written by Anna Lee Robe- Terry a local gal from Bunners Ridge right here in Marion County is our next new book at the Marion County History Museum for the Halloween season. Here is an overview of what it is aboutโ€”

Anna Lee wrote these stories as she remembered themโ€”all from the place she grew up andreturned to later in life, Bunner Ridge in Marion County, West Virginia.

Anna Leeโ€™s stories are about country life: interesting. You can tell by the titles:
The pregnant woman, the burglar and the midwife.
Funeral on the highest hill
Hoeing corn and the circus
Headless Horse of Nebo Hill
Panthers and vanishing people
Sniper hunting and milking

The book is also full of wonderful almost-lost knowledge on home remedies, hog-nosed snakes, and how to train a baby.

Want to find out about the man who mistook his wife for a horse, or how to take one shot and kill three squirrels? Want to learn about traveling peddlers or adventures to have when fetching the mail?
I canโ€™t wait to read this. Please stop by the museum at 211 Adams St. Fairmont WV and pick up a copy for $10, or simply call 304-367-5398 and for a extra $5 fee one can be shipped to you.
