Why does the Moon in Autumn impact us more powerfully than other times of the year?
Some say it is because it is closer to the Earth during the Autumn season. Others say that when the Moon is low in the sky it looks bigger and brighter - in comparison to things on the horizon.
And when the full Moon rises close to the Autumn Equinox (when the days and nights are equal in length), it provides additional hours of light which is a boon to the Harvest.
All of these things make the Moon attractive in Autumn and it has become significant in a variety of celebrations, including the Mid-Autumn Festival, the Moon Festival, Halloween and many others. It is no wonder that Autumn is The Season of the Moon.

A Fawn awaits the return of her mother. Fawns rest in secluded locations while the mother forages for food. Generally, the mother returns two or three times during the day to nurse her baby. The fawn may change location on its own. This fawn has chosen a shady spot in the tall grass under a tree.
White-tailed Deer are the most common Deer species in North America, ranging from the Atlantic coast to the Rocky Mountains, from Canada to Central America and all the way to the Florida Keys. In New York State, they are found everywhere - particularly in unoccupied forest land and throughout the Adirondack and Catskill Mountains.
This White-tailed fawn is spotted "Waiting" on a sunny day for her mother to return.

Leatherworking at South Shore Artisans
A little leather, a lot of tools, and plenty of hammering!
Our latest leatherworking class focused on creating handmade leather journal covers while learning the basics of leather carving and tooling. Students got hands-on experience using traditional leatherworking tools and techniques to begin turning a simple piece of leather into something uniquely their own.
Classes at South Shore Artisans are about more than the finished project. They’re a chance to learn a new skill, work with your hands, and discover just how much you can create yourself.
