It’s always fun to host the final project for the Designing Events class with UCO School of Design! This 8-week class covers all things event planning and design, culminating with a tablescaping project. This year’s theme, “The Queen’s Tea”, took many twists and turns, featuring queens from all over the globe plus one table themed around tea’s journey as it was imported across the ocean.

Virginia Sitzes: Electric Networks is currently on view through Nov. 13.

Check out this excerpt by our Guest Curator, Alexa Goetzinger:

"Screenprinting allows Sitzes to build an image through layers of color, with each pass through the screen introducing another element to the composition. Within a single pass, she can create rainbow rolls, allowing colors to shift and merge as they are applied to the paper. The resulting interactions are both controlled and unpredictable, producing the energetic transitions and overlaps that are characteristic to her work."

Alumni Artist Spotlight – Marie Kash Weltzheimer

Marie Kash Weltzheimer is an Oklahoma based, full-time representational artist since 1988, whose work reflects inspirations from music and nature. Marie is an award-winning artist having exhibited in numerous local, national and international shows receiving several "Best of Show" awards for her work. She is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America, and Master Circle Honoree with the International Association of Pastel Societies. She has a long history working with pastel and drawing mediums, with oil painting as a favorite. Common themes of human figures, portraits, still life and the occasional landscape reflect hope, resonate beauty and the extraordinary that exists around us.

Marie earned her BS in commercial art in 1982 from the University of Central Oklahoma while taking enough music classes that could have classified as a minor study, with trumpet her major instrument. A few years after graduation, she took a graduate level studio class at UCO (then CSU) with Dr. William Wallo, a professor with whom she felt challenged well to learn about color theory and figure drawing in undergraduate classes.

Marie also loves to see everyone that Reba meets on her travels. If you have a picture or selfie with The Queen of Country tag Marie or drop it in the comments!

The Melton Gallery is CLOSED today for a private workshop. But there are still two days left to see the Central Alumni Exhibition: Thursday 12-5 and Friday 12-3. Come by before it closes!

Melton on the Move is back! Our Melton Gallery Assistant, Hutton Coker, Hutton Coker has been awarded a Research, Creative, and Scholarly Activities grant to bring the Box Truck Show back to life. This time he is looking for local artists to create unique skateboard decks!

Local artists are invited to apply for consideration to be displayed. Hutton will once again transform the College of Fine Arts and Design box truck into a mobile art gallery on November 5, 2026, for a one-day pop-up show. This is an open call to any artist in the Oklahoma City metro who would like the chance to participate. Please attach three images of previously completed work. Selected artists will pick up a blank skateboard deck and make it their own.

This project is based on work supported by a grant from the Office of High Impact Practices, University of Central Oklahoma.

The UCO Melton Gallery presents “Virginia Sitzes: Electric Networks,” a solo exhibition by Oklahoma artist Virginia Sitzes, on view Oct. 5-Nov. 13.
“Virginia Sitzes is an interdisciplinary artist whose work explores how information, people, ideas, and visual forms intersect. Across her varied practice, fluorescent colors and dynamic shapes provide a consistent visual imagery throughout multiple mediums. Her compositions are energetic and layered, and beneath their intensity is a reflection on how Sitzes experiences and understands the world.” - Statement by Guest Curator, Alexa Goetzinger.
Sitzes is an award-winning printmaker, muralist and arts advocate whose work explores connections, community and place through bold painting and printmaking. She is the founder of the Sunny Dayz Mural Festival and a co-founder of the Oklahoma-based artist collective Art Group. She is heavily involved in the Oklahoma arts community through many different roles and organizations. Her work has been exhibited throughout the state and nationwide. She has been featured in various publications including Art Focus magazine, Oklahoma Gazette and The Tulsa Voice.
A public reception with the artist will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Oct. 29. Admission is free and open to the public.

💙 UCO Melton Gallery: Central Alumni Reception and Craft ‘N Yap

The Melton Gallery is excited to host a reception for the inaugural Central Alumni Exhibition. The show includes artwork from 31 Central alumni across a wide range of media, including photography, video/expanded media, drawing, painting, sculpture, fiber and more. “Craft N Yap”, a free community craft night will also take place with personalized button-making activities. The reception is free and open to the public, with complimentary parking available in UCO Lot 7. Light refreshments will be provided.

Reian williams's new collection explores his continued artistic evolution, bringing together his distinctive perspective, thoughtful compositions, and expressive approach to contemporary art. The exhibition highlights the artist’s newest work and invites viewers to slow down, look closer, and connect with the ideas and subject matter in each piece. The gallery opening will take place from 5–7 p.m. on Thursday, September 3, at Edmond Fine Arts. Complimentary refreshments will be provided.
