The Reboli Center for Art and History

The Reboli Center for Art and History This is the official page of The Reboli Center for Art and History. Since the death of the artist Joseph Reboli in 2004 there has been a search to find a suitable site for a unique art center that will feature the remarkable historical collection of paintings from this very popular 20th century artist.
(9)

That remarkable site has now been found. Located in the center of the village of Stony Brook on the banks of the Stony Brook Creek overlooking beautiful Stony Brook harbor, a historic brick structure built in 1911 for the Bank of Suffolk County will become the Reboli Center for Art and History. The building, the only commercial building still standing in its original location in the village of Stony Brook, has many historical ties to the Reboli family and will offer to the community a beautiful setting for a new cultural organization. The establishment of the Reboli Center will provide public access to Reboli’s work and will provide artistic and historical programs for children and adults that will educate them about his art and its relationship to the Three Village community, Suffolk County, and Long Island. In addition, the Reboli Center will present the work of other contemporary artists and craftsmen, will display historical exhibits about Long Island, and will promote the study of classical painting and drawing on Long Island.

We are pleased to name Long Island potter, Laura Peters, as our artisan of the month for January, kicking off the new year of 2021. “Laura’s striking and intricate work is extraordinary, bringing the beauty of nature to life in her impressive line of vases, mugs, plates and other art,” said Lois Reboli, founder of the Reboli Center and wife of the late renowned artist, Joseph Reboli, for whom the center is named.
“I mainly focus on the flora and fauna of North America and beyond, and hope to convey the beauty and value of each species throughout my work,” explains Laura. “The result is a unique one of a kind original.”
Since she was a child, Laura has worked in various artistic media. She was first introduced to pottery after moving to the Pacific Northwest from New York. Laura credits her inspiration for her work from field observations and her studies in Anthropology and Zoology at Oregon State University, and the extraordinary animals she worked with at the Chintimini Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Oregon.
To learn more about Laura, visit our website (link in bio). Laura’s work will be featured in our main Gallery and design shop through the month of January, 2021. No reservations are required to visit the Reboli Center!
(Piece pricing left to right: Square Plate: $55, Cup: $95, Mug: $95).

We are currently fawning over Janet Zugg’s ‘Jester Vases’. Hand blown in Vermont, these vases are a noteworthy combination of visually appealing design and function. Adding an inspiring dose of beauty to their surrounding environment. “Having the freedom and ability to make bright and cheerful creations is very satisfying but my highest compliment is the feeling of joy people have when they experience beauty through a piece of my work. Using deep jewel-tones, I strive to create functional designs that inspire happiness.” - Janet Zugg. Janet Zugg’s glass art is now available for viewing and purchase in our design shop.

We couldn’t think of a more perfect gift for your special someone this holiday season. This stunning, 18k yellow gold, 18” necklace, which sports a dazzling .57ct black Diamond, is now available in our gallery for $1.295. New York born and raised, now located in Oakland, CA, Kate primarily works in gold and diamonds. Reboli explains, “Each piece is unique and presents its own challenges. I prefer working in precious metals and gemstones. I love the fact that I create in materials that will last the test of time. My pieces are made to be loved for a lifetime, then passed on. Depending on the item, it can take anywhere from three to 20 hours to fabricate. I find myself leaning toward unique diamonds that you wouldn’t find in just any high end jewelry collection. I really enjoy the contrast of yellow gold and black diamonds.” Kate is our featured Artisan of December, 2020. Stop in to see more of her stunning work.

Using the seedpods of the Ulumbu Tree, Zimbabwean artist, Raina Mazwiembiri and her two daughters create these charming little birds which stand anywhere between 2-4" tall. The Ulumbu Tree is not an abundant species in the area in which they live. Raina and her daughters travel seven hours to the Bulawayo area to pick the seedpods and then travel back home. The trip in total typically takes around three days. They use the seedpod as the body of the bird, shape wire for the legs, and putty for the beaks. They then hand paint the birds with bright colors one at a time to emulate their natural plumage. We love Raina’s seedpod birds which have been restocked in our Design Shop. Which one is your favorite?

Sweetbriar Nature Center Visits the Reboli Center

On September 26, adorable animals from Sweetbriar Nature Center in Smithtown took a road trip to visit the Reboli Center of Art and History in Stony Brook. Gary, a Mallard Duck; Winter; a domesticated rabbit; a Blue Jay named Little Blue; Stitch, a Red Tailed Hawk; and Seven, a Barn Owl, enthralled children and adults who came to an up close and personal lecture on the grounds of the Reboli Center. For more information about Sweetbriar, please visit www.sweetbriarnc.org. This event complimented the current show at The Reboli Center that features the whimsical paintings of birds and animals by former Stony Brook resident Vicki Sawyer, which is on display until November 1.
