The Upper Ohio Valley Museum and Learning Center at the Lou Holtz Hall of Fame along with the Museum of Ceramics will be participating in Ohio Open Doors on Sunday, September 20, 2026 from 1:00-3:00. Our program is Taste of Colonial America where participants can stop at each museum and sample a wide range of colonial foods and learn more about the colonial period in American history and the best part is admission is free for this event! Score one for after church dinner!

Another fun evening with the Cooking and Sharing group. Our theme was Colonial Foods. We enjoyed a fabulous corn salad, Martha Washington cake, Thomas Jefferson rice pudding and something vaguely resembling a power bar made from dried meat and fruit that the soldiers carried in their pockets to eat along the road. Nancy needed Rose Water for one of her recipes. Of course she couldn’t source that locally so she made her own. I am just hoping the wives put a little Rose Water in that Colonial Power Bar to remind their soldiers of home where they would enjoy a fireside dinner of Cheshire Pork Pie hot out of the oven, apple crisp and hand pies for dessert.

Our September theme is Polish Foods. Come join us for a wonderful evening of Cooking and Sharing, the 3rd Tuesday of every month.

The Upper Ohio Valley Museum and Learning Center at the Lou Holtz Hall of Fame is pleased to welcome Sean Posey as this month’s featured speaker. He is an engaging speaker and acclaimed author.

Posey is the author of three acclaimed books in which he explores the people and events that shaped the Mahoning Valley.

This program is part of the museum’s speaker series which brings historians, authors and educators to the museum to explore the rich history of the Upper Ohio Valley.

Admission is free although donations to support the museum’s educational programs are always appreciated.
