A Video Commemoration of the "I Am! at IAM" Exhibition

Back in June we created a video to commemorate not only passing of the 19th Amendment, but our collaborative exhibition with Women Sharing Art, Inc., I Am! at IAM.

But did you know that the 19th Amendment was passed by Congress on June 4th, 1919 and ratified on August 18th, 1920?

If you are feeling as nostalgic as we are, feel free to watch our commemorative video below and revel in the importance of togetherness and community.

A Video Commemoration of the "I Am! at IAM" Exhbition

"Our Voices, Stronger, Together"

The exhibition, "I Am! at IAM" was curated by Christine O’Malley, and ran through Women’s History Month from February 1st until it prematurely closed amid the Corona Virus outbreak. Here the exhibition is reflected on and narrated by Islip Arts Council member, Brianna Coccia, who describes several poignant moments in history and sacrifices women made to attain a voice in society.

This video reflects on the impeccable work of members of Women Sharing Art, Inc., where their reflective work, infused with new meaning, created a memorable collection of multimedia artwork encompassing the theme of the 19th Amendment.

Video Produced and Directed by Seb Saga's Video Production and Marketing.

Everything around us seems to be moving rapidly towards the adaptation of the arts online exponentially everyday.

But before we take steps forward towards bringing our community new exhibitions we would like to reflect and ask you all, what has been your favorite exhibition hosted by the Islip Art Museum and why?

05/22/2020

As we make our shift into the virtual world, we have taken the time to sit and reflect on what our exhibits have meant to us, the artists and our community.

"Spring Cleaning" has taken on a whole new meaning this year as we are clearing out our halls and returning pieces to their original owners from our last exhibition, "I Am! at IAM". Now our halls may become empty, but the impact of each exhibition lasts for forever.

At this time, we would like to extend our gratitude towards Women Sharing Art, Inc. for working with us to showcase the incredibly impactful pieces in honor of the 100th year anniversary of women's right to vote.

Our Story

The Islip Art Museum is the leading exhibition space for contemporary art on Long Island. The New York Times has called the Museum the "best facility of its kind outside Manhattan." An ambitious exhibition program features contemporary art by national and international artists, as well as emerging artists from local communities.

The Museum presents five exhibitions a year in the galleries of the Brookwood Hall mansion, a landmark estate on Long Island's south shore. Exhibitions are organized to reflect issues and concerns in the current art world.

The Museum also present lectures, fine art classes for adults and children, and workshops and tours for all age groups. The Museum Store features one-of-kind craft items, art work, gifts and unusual stationery and fine jewelry.

The Museum is a division of the Town of Islip Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs and is managed by the Islip Arts Council, a non-profit arts agency with offices in the Brookwood Hall complex. Visit: www.islipartscouncil.org

Getting lost to get found. Wow, what sculptures on the grounds of the Islip Arts Museum ! These are very, very cool when one needs to get grounded, to see the past repeat itself today. Some trees that hate to die, and children who could care less.
My 5 yr old has been learning and recreating some of the greats :) today was Picasso.
I have been visiting the Islip Art Museum for many years. Never been sorry. My group has exhibited in the history room and felt apart of the family. When you receive the Town of Islip Recreation Booklets, take note of the large section devoted to the Art Museum, their exhibits and programs. Keep up the good work.
Exhilarating! Brilliant! Must see!!!

Islip Art Museum is a South Shore gem!
What a wonderful reception for The Art of Meditation exhibition curated by Seung Lee. The exhibit itself exuded an ebb and flow arrangement and I was so pleased that my recent photo-liminal image Morning On Main is pART of the visual tide. The current stARTed as I approached the Islip Art Museum as friends were all arriving and some were leaving. It was great bumping into Ali Rufrano and Sandi Daniel who also had work in the exhibit. I knew both from fotofoto gallery and it was so good to catch up with them. The diverse group of artists brought a wide array of visitors and I was most excited by discussion with Adel Gorgy Contemporary Fine Art Photography who has work in this show and I would love to talk with him again. Most fun was seeing Ray Burns, composer and conductor who had been pART of Bay Shore School District when my own kids were in school and meeting his lovely wife...and discovering that we share special fondness and friendship for Lynda A Moran. I could go on and on but I will just end by saying that this is an definitely exhibition worth checking out! Kudos all around!
