Happy American Archives Month! Did you know that there are more than 1400 historical records programs in New York State, including libraries, museums, businesses, and other organizations. Historical records can also be found in the more than 4,000 local governments in the state. How many different archives have you visited?

If you want to start volunteering in the Dunkirk Historical Museum's archives, we have a wide variety of projects you can help out with, and we'll train you every step of the way! Call us or drop in during open hours to learn more.

Happy American Archives Month! Today, please join us in celebrating the care and hard work by the Dunkirk Museum's document and photograph archivists, responsible for maintaining our communities' vital historical records. We would also like to acknowledge the efforts of those who have volunteered and passed on before us, like Peter Komada who scanned a vast number of the photographs in our collection. If you have shared one of our photos online, you probably have Mr. Komada to thank.

Our research continues into Dunkirk Fraternities and Sororities. Can YOU help us? Just fill out our new questionnaire about your experiences, or even events you may have heard about. You can even fill it out anonymously, just be sure to let us know the year(s) you were at Dunkirk High School so we can keep the information organized. We want EVERYONE to fill these out, including recent graduates so we can figure out exactly when the fraternities/sororities dissolved (or are still out there somewhere?). You can even fill this out if you attended a nearby school and remember anything about Dunkirk groups.

Join us in this collaborative project that so far spans more than 75 years of Dunkirk history!! Stop by the museum or send us an email at [email protected] and we will send you an informational sheet to share what you know!

The Dunkirk Historical Museum congratulates Richard Schulenberg for his donation to the museum of model of a Dunkirk Engineering Company locomotive that he constructed. The detail on the model is remarkable and it is now displayed on the Brooks Room of the museum along with a photographic panel created by a Diane Andrasik.
