Fort Devens Museum Preserving and sharing the history of Camp Devens, Fort Devens, and the current Military Training Ce

The Fort Devens Museum grew from a need to preserve the history of the base after it was closed as an active duty installation in 1996. Incorporated in 2000, the museum collects, displays, and interprets the history of the land first known as Camp Devens and later Fort Devens. The museum draws from its collection of letters, photographs, uniforms, training manuals, and other ephemera from life at Devens to tell the stories of those who lived, trained, and worked here.

The war having recently ended, 1945 marked the return of the highly anticipated Army vs. Navy football game. The game was held in Philadelphia on December 1st. Army and Navy were ranked #1 and #2 (respectively) that year with Army winning 32-13. Come watch this year's game with us on Saturday the 13th on our big screen. Tickets are $25 and include food (pulled pork sandwiches, assorted sandwiches, chips, cheese & crackers). Cash bar. This is a fundraiser for the museum and we appreciate your support. 107 years ago on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month fighting in World War I came to a close as the Armistice took effect. For years November 11 was celebrated as Armistice Day, but in 1954 November 11th was re-designated as Veterans Day to honor American Veterans of all wars.

Thank you to all our Veterans, past and present.

This photograph was taken at Camp Devens on November 11, 1918 in front of the Sweetheart Memorial on Jackson Road. In celebration-and to make lots of noise-the revelers carried "all kinds [of implements] from broom handles to dishpans, and lots of them, too."
