At Thursday's student fair, incoming freshmen were invited to sign up to get involved with the DeLand Naval Air Station Museum!

With the new semester kicking off Monday, we are expecting even more students to join the ranks. If you weren't at the fair but want in, stop by and say hello!

We are excited to spotlight the Riddle Redeemers Restoration Club, sanctioned by Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. It was founded by former student Isaiah Carlton, who's now flying as a pilot for United Airlines. Proof that what starts here can take you anywhere. ✈️

Today is National Purple Heart Day.

On August 7, 1782, George Washington created the Badge of Military Merit. It was the first American award given to enlisted soldiers for bravery. On this date in 1932, it was revived as the Purple Heart.

It is not an award anyone applies for. It is given to those wounded or killed in service to this country.

Today we remember them, and every service member who earned it.

Big shout out to Lisa Lewis and the Volusia County Supervisor of Elections office. 🇺🇸

They just launched the Vote in Honor of a Veteran program, and we love to see it.

The program lets our community recognize and honor veterans with ties to Volusia County. Submitted veterans can be featured on the Supervisor of Elections website and in their office lobby. It's a simple, meaningful way to celebrate the local heroes who have served our nation.

Know a veteran connected to Volusia County? A family member, friend, neighbor, or fellow community member? You can submit their information for consideration.

Honoring the men and women who served is at the heart of what we do here at the museum. We're proud to see the Supervisor of Elections doing the same.

Happy 4th of July from all of us at the DeLand Naval Air Station Museum! 🇺🇸

This year's celebration carries extra weight. 2026 marks the Semiquincentennial, 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Two and a half centuries of a nation built, tested, and defended by generations of Americans who believed freedom was worth the fight.

Here in DeLand, that legacy has a local chapter. The Naval Air Station that once trained pilots on these very grounds is part of a much larger story, one of ordinary people answering the call to serve something bigger than themselves. Every artifact we preserve and every story we share is our way of making sure that service is never forgotten.

So today, as you gather with family, watch the fireworks light up the sky, and celebrate everything this country has become, take a moment to remember what it took to get here, and the men and women, past and present, who continue to protect it.

We are honored and grateful to be among the 2026 grant recipients of the Rotary Club of DeLand.

Thank you for awarding more than $50,000 in community grants this year, and for including the DeLand Naval Air Station Museum among 24 organizations working to make West Volusia stronger.

Support like this helps us preserve the history of those who trained and served here, and share their stories with the next generation.
