A little over 100 years ago corn was the largest crop grown in Hendricks County, followed by wheat. Soybeans became a major commodity later, due in large part to Adrian Parsons of Washington Township. Shown is wheat being harvested in a small Center Township field earlier this summer.

Thank you Hendricks County Garden Club for the beautiful flowers at our storage house. The Friends of the Hendricks County Historical Museum bought this very old house (maybe 160 years old!) in Danville to house some of our collections, items for displays, old newspapers, and have a workspace. Our major fundraiser Dancing with the Hendricks County Stars allows us to take care of this historic property and the collections here and in the Museum. We are honored that the Garden Club chose us as an America 250 project.

Our games on the lawn and farm animals event is canceled for today, August 15. The radar looks like storms will be right over us this morning.
Our thoughts and prayers for those in central Indiana suffering with this 100 year flood. Stay safe.

Try some current and vintage games on the yard of the Hendricks County Historical Museum this Saturday August 15, 11 -1. Our Star Farm and Cherry Creek Farm and Feed will also bring some cute animals to interact with. This event is free. Let's hope the weather cooperates this time!

Museum visitors learned about Revolutionary War weapons, powder ("saltpeter, Abigail, pins John"), keeping your powder dry, why good teeth were necessary, and uniforms, thanks to Brad Belcher. A great way to honor America's 250th birthday! Brad will be at the Feast of the Hunters' Moon at Fort Ouiatenon in October which is a great place to see about frontier life in Indiana.

Next Saturday August 15 is our rescheduled kids games and animals on the lawn of the Hendricks County Historical Museum, from 11-1. Join us for this free event. The Museum will be open for tours 11-3.
Tomorrow, August 8 stop by to learn about Revolutionary War era weapons from history buff Brad, 11-1.

This Saturday, August 8 local history buff and reinactor Brad Belcher will be at the Museum to share his knowledge and collection of Revolutionary War era muskets and powder horns.This is a free, drop in style event, 11-1 at the Hendricks County Historical Museum, 170 S Washington St Danville, Indiana.

The weather report of rain and possible storms has caused us to reschedule our petting zoo and games on the lawn to a later date.

Come see chickens, duck, goat, and a donkey from Our Star Farm and Cherry Creek Farm and Feed this Saturday August 1 at the Hendricks County Historical Museum lawn from 11-1. There will also be children's games to try. Stop in and see our Museum displays from 11 to 3.
