The Montgomery County Cultural Foundation staff and volunteers observe this Memorial Day and those who paid the ultimate price for our freedom with full and hopeful hearts.

As neighbors, friends, family members, colleagues, and fellow citizens - we may not always see eye to eye on the topics that speak loudest to our hearts - but collectively, I hope, we can all agree that the sacrifices made by those who no longer stand shoulder to shoulder with the people hailing from every square inch of American soil, for which those sacrifices were made, should not be ignored or forgotten. We can't forget why. Choice. Freedoms, rights, and choices taken from one, are taken from all.

Though we haven't all worn a uniform, we all have a stake in the outcome. We contribute with our time, donations, the exercising of our civil duties, tax dollars, and support.

In honor of the ultimate contribution of service members and their loved ones, we will continue making the best informed, responsible, reasonable, and inclusive decisions presented to us.

We remember that sacrifices made by Service Members, across all branches of the United States Military, were made for all of us. Those hearts and hands belonging to people who were loved ones to some of us, but for the most part strangers to the rest of us, still chose to represent and protect the bigger picture - that we are all Americans collectively, not selectively.
