Step into the story of how we got here with “Ohio: Gateway to America (1776–2026)”—a special presentation by Dr. Dan Rager, author of Ohio Gateway to America: Ground Transportation 1776–2026.

This special program is presented in partnership with the Roscoe Village Foundation and the Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum.

From Indian trails and stagecoaches to canals, railroads, and modern roads, Dr. Rager brings 250 years of Ohio’s transportation history to life through engaging stories, photos, and maps. Discover how past generations shaped the way we travel today.

Books will be available for purchase, and Dr. Rager will be signing copies after the program.

Anthropology is the scientific study of humankind, examining our cultures, societies, and behaviors across time and place, aiming to understand the full scope of what makes us human. Through our 2026 summer children's program, discover how people long ago used natural materials to create baskets, pottery, cloth, and more! Through fun hands-on activities like weaving, painting symbols, and crafting, kids will explore how humans lived, created, and shared their stories across time. Join us every Friday from May 29th - July 3rd, 10:00 - 11:00 AM for an exciting journey through time and culture! 🔍✨

This summer program is geared toward children ages 3 – 5 and 6 – 12. Admission is $6 per child ($1 per week per child). Families will be allowed to explore the Museum after each session. Space is limited and reservations are required. Please register by visiting jhmuseum.org/summer, calling 740-622-8710, or visiting the museum. Make it Like the Past is presented in conjunction with the Coshocton Public Library, Clary Gardens, Historic Roscoe Village, and the Pomerene Center for the Arts through the Unearth a Story program. Today we celebrate 95 years of the Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum! 🎉

Since opening its doors on May 8, 1931, the museum has shared stories, art, history, and culture with generations of visitors. Founded through the generous bequest of Coshocton natives David M. and John H. Johnson, the museum began as a memorial to their Johnson and Humrickhouse ancestors and a home for the incredible collections they gathered during their travels across the world.

From American Indian baskets and beadwork to Asian fine arts, European ceramics, local history artifacts, and prehistoric Ohio tools and points, our collections continue to grow thanks to the support and generosity of our community.

For 95 years, our mission has remained the same: to inspire creativity, the love of learning, and an appreciation of diverse cultures and local heritage. Thank you to everyone who has visited, donated, volunteered, supported, and shared in our journey over the decades.

Here’s to celebrating our past and looking ahead to the future together! ❤️

Meet Me at the Museum is back on May 7th at 12:00! Bring a lunch or enjoy some snacks on us as we gather together and casually discuss a new topic each time we meet.

Join us as we celebrate Children’s Book Week! Children’s books often carry a kind of timeless wisdom—and they’re just as meaningful (and fun) for grown-ups as they are for young readers. Is there a book from your childhood that still stays with you? Or a beloved story that has been passed down through your family? Bring it along and share it with us. Also, this year marks the 100th anniversary of the publication of Winnie-the-Pooh, so we’ll take some time to learn a little about author A.A. Milne and the origins of these beloved stories. 🍯📖

Calling all tweens! Join us at JH Museum on May 11th at 6:00 PM for a fun program designed for 12 to 14-year-olds (but those a little younger or a little older are welcome as well)! This event offers a unique opportunity to explore how the museum operates behind the scenes. Participate in interactive activities that showcase the inner workings of exhibits and collections, enjoy snacks, and play fun games. It’s a perfect chance to learn, make new friends, and discover the fascinating world of museums in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

Come hang out every second Monday of each month from 6:00 to 7:30 PM! These programs are free, but registration for each month is required. Visit jhmuseum.org/museum-takeover to register online, call 740-622-8710, or register at the end of each program for the next month.
