As the seasons change, so do our hours! Beginning this month, the Montezuma Heritage Museum is open Wednesday–Saturday, 10 AM–4 PM, with Tuesdays by appointment.

Winter gives us a little more time for collections care, research, exhibits, and other behind-the-scenes work. We’re still here, though—just email or call ahead if you’d like to visit on a Tuesday!

We have three great programs coming up this month:

Chuckwagon Supper — Sept. 12, 6-8 PM
BBQ by Calico Cookouts, Western music & cowboy poetry at the Cortez Cultural Center. Tickets are available for purchase!

Ute Mountain Utes: Circle of Culture — Sept. 19, 2 PM
Join Ute Mountain Ute elders for an afternoon of traditional arts, culture & storytelling. Registration required; limited to 40 attendees.

Mesa Verde’s CCC Legacy — Sept. 26, 12 PM
Learn about the Civilian Conservation Corps and its lasting impact on Mesa Verde National Park.

Throwback Thursday 📸

Another gem from our newspaper photo collection—this one is also from 1955!

We’re working with Fort Lewis College’s Center of Southwest Studies to obtain hard copies of Montezuma Valley Journal papers from this era. Having the original newspapers will help us add more context to the many wonderful photographs in our collection.

Stay tuned for more glimpses into Montezuma County’s past!
