🚂 Documenting the Damage at Garrison Creek Bridge

Our volunteers continue walking the line and documenting flood damage, this time at the Garrison Creek Bridge, located along the line between Fayette and Franklin Counties.

We’re happy to report that a bridge inspector has inspected the bridge and found no damage to the structure. That’s great news as we continue assessing the surrounding railroad and planning the repairs ahead! 💪❤️

One bridge, one mile, and one step at a time—we’re working our way back.

🚂 Beyond the Rails: Meet Tony! 🛠️

In this edition of Beyond the Rails, we’re checking in with Tony, one of our Track Foremen, to learn more about the work that goes into maintaining the railroad and keeping our tracks safe and operational.

From track maintenance and repairs to tackling the challenges that come with caring for miles of historic railroad, Tony and our track crew put in countless hours to keep WVRR moving forward. 🚧🚂

Especially after the devastating flooding, the importance of our track department has never been more apparent. The work may not always be glamorous, but every tie, rail, and section of track brings us one step closer to getting back where we belong.

🐾 It's FURBALL FRIDAY! 🐱

Rusty has officially upgraded her favorite window spot with a brand-new bed, and it looks like she’s settling in just fine! 😻 There’s nothing better than finding the perfect place to curl up, relax, and keep an eye on everything happening around the shop.

Now, we know what you’re thinking… that window could use a little cleaning! 😂 But please don’t distract our hardworking shop supervisor. She has much more important things to oversee, and window washing clearly isn’t at the top of her priority list!

Between supervising the crew, keeping tabs on shop activities, and catching up on her beauty sleep, Rusty certainly keeps herself busy. We’re not sure how we’d keep things running without her! 🚂🐾

🚂 Help Whitewater Valley Railroad Get Back on Track! ❤️

The road to recovery is long, and we still have a tremendous amount of work ahead of us. The devastating August floods caused extensive damage to our tracks, railbed, and railroad infrastructure. The cost to rebuild will reach into the millions, and we are still only a fraction of the way toward our goal.

As a 100% volunteer-run, nonprofit railroad museum, our mission is to preserve railroad history, restore historic railroad equipment, and provide educational experiences for future generations. We are committed to continuing that mission and bringing our trains back to Metamora, but we cannot do it alone.
