Did you know that 44 of Indiana's 92 counties are named after Revolutionary War figures? They are highlighted in blue on this map.

Beyond county names, there are also many Hoosier cities and towns named for people who played a role in the Revolutionary War.

Here is Indiana Historical Society's list of Hoosier counties named for Revolutionary figures:

Indiana Daughters of the American Revolution have tried to find every Patriot buried in every county. The County Histoian compiled this list a couple of years ago. Then, a few weeks ago, a descendant of Noble Ladd contacted her about another ancestor and mentioned Mr. Ladd. He is in a marked grave in Mt. Zion Cemetery, but we knew nothing of his service. He has been added to list, and his name will be on a sign at Mt. Zion.
Because settlement of Indiana happened mainly from south to north, Fayette and surrounding counties have more patriots buried here than counties to the north.
Hats off to brave patriots who gave us our freedom!
