Have you noticed a few new faces in the gallery?

We’re delighted to welcome Megan Cooper and Sefanit Reddae for an arts based internship and are excited to mentor them as they gain hands-on experience in gallery operations and curation.

Cooper is a graduate of The Ohio State University in History of Art, and is currently a Masters candidate at Sotheby’s Institute of Art, for Art Business. She is “excited to contribute to the vibrant arts community in Columbus, connect with the local art community, and continue learning and growing in the industry.”

Reddae is a third-year student at The Ohio State University, majoring in Arts Management with a minor in History of Art. She hopes to pursue a career in contemporary art curation and is also interning with Urban Arts Space. Reddae shares, “I’m very excited to intern here and learn from everyone! So grateful for this opportunity.”

Be sure to give them a warm welcome the next time you visit the gallery!

OPENING Friday, October 23rd! “𝑰𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑨𝒊𝒓 𝑻𝒐𝒏𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕” a solo exhibition by multimedia artist Gavin Benjamin! 🪩

Deriving its title from Phil Collins’ seminal 1981 song, the exhibition locates Benjamin’s practice within the intersections of autobiography, popular culture, and collective memory. Drawing on his experience of coming of age in New York City during the transformative 1990s, Benjamin constructs a visual archive of a cultural moment, one shaped by music, nightlife, politics, fashion, and the evolving mythology of the city.

At the heart of “In the Air Tonight” is an investigation of memory as both lived experience and cultural artifact. Benjamin revisits the past not simply to commemorate it, but to examine how identity is constructed, remembered, and continually reimagined through the visual language of popular culture.

A closer look at Melissa Vogley Woods’ exhibition, “When the Earth Bends We Bend”…

In this series of square relief panels, Vogley Woods constructs an imagined geology: fantastical marbles that emerge not from the earth itself, but from an internal, remembered landscape. Veined patterns suggest the slow accumulation and suspension of geological time, while a wandering line traverses each surface, introducing a distinctly human measure of movement.

At moments, the line gathers into a knot, a gesture that interrupts the stillness of the stone and creates a pause within its imagined formation. Here, the human hand becomes both observer and participant, tracing a path through material, memory, and time.

Vogley Woods’ marbles occupy a space between the geological and the psychological, inviting us to consider how the earth might hold memory, movement, and the traces of our own presence.

“When the Earth Bends We Bend”, a stunning new collection by Melissa Vogley Woods features a series of figurative, low-relief sculptures that delve into the concept of human time.

These relief sculptures act as threshold objects, teetering between, and conflating the body with the natural world. Vogley Woods uses repetition to explore human time, revealing the hand as both a tool for holding and finding, and a vessel for creating and dreaming.

We invite you to view these unique pieces in person as they offer a fresh perspective on our relationship with the earth.

A closer look at Melissa Vogley Woods’ exhibition, “When the Earth Bends We Bend”…

In this series of delicate watercolors, Vogley Woods considers the earth beneath our feet as a site of movement, transformation, and permeability—refashioning its solid, opaque layers into something luminous, shifting, and almost transparent.

Each 12 × 18 inch work is composed of two to three layers of contrasting marble patterns, built through overlapping and merging fields of complementary color. The surfaces are then partially erased—rubbed away with water and a blunt brush—to reveal and focus the viewer on fleeting intersections and traces of movement that lie beneath.
