Clementon Historical Commission Sharing the history of the town once called "South Jersey's Coney Island." Inspired by former town historian John H. In 2005, the John. H. Fisher, Jr.

In 2001, a small group of dedicated Clementon citizens formed the Clementon Historical Commission. Fisher, Jr., the group endeavored to make Fisher’s long-held dream – a place to house and display Clementon history – a reality. Historical Museum opened its doors in the onetime council chambers of Clementon’s former borough hall at the intersection of Gibbsboro and White Horse Roads. Fisher wouldn’t live to see his dream come to fruition; however, his careful organization serves as the cornerstone of the Museum’s collection. In Fisher’s spirit, the Commission collects historical documents and memorabilia lent and donated by residents present and past, making them available for the enjoyment and education of all visitors.

In spring of 1967, voters in the Lower Camden County Regional High School District approved a $5.3 million bond issue for the construction of two new schools: Edgewood Junior High School in Winslow and Overbook Regional Senior High School in Pine Hill.

The new high school would be built on 48.7 acres of land on Turnerville (sometimes spelled Turnersville) Road.

When complete, it would house higher grade students who'd previously attended Overbrook Regional in Lindenwold. Middle schoolers would stay back in Lindenwold in the building rechristened Overbrook Regional Junior High School.

This yearbook spread shows the footprint of Lower Camden County Regional High School (later Overbrook Regional, then Overbrook Junior, now Lindenwold Middle School) as it appeared when it opened its doors to students in 1939.

The wing that now extends from the building's right-hand side was added in the late 1950s to offset overcrowding.

Hadn't there been a contest in the 1950s to find a new, shorter name for Lindenwold's "Lower Camden County Regional High School"? Hadn't a woman won with "Overbrook"?

Name-related headaches burdened lower Camden County's long-awaited regional high school from the time its doors opened in Lindenwold in 1939: "Lower Camden County Regional" was a mouthful; meanwhile, "Lower Regional" rubbed students the wrong way.

This newspaper blurb in the comments bemoaning “Lower Regional” ran in 1948.

These photos of the school's exterior and auditorium were snapped roughly during this same era, in 1946.

Did you know?

When its doors opened in Lindenwold in 1939, it was Lower Camden County Regional High School – colloquially Lower Regional, Camden Regional, or just "Regional."

As plans for a second Lower Camden County Regional School District high school crystallized in the 1950s, it must have been clear that more efficient names were needed. Lower Camden County Regional High School Number One became Overbrook Regional Senior High School in 1957. The second district high school – Edgewood Regional – opened its doors in Winslow a year later.

Much has changed since those days, including the dissolution of the Lower Camden County Regional High School district. Only the name Overbrook is in use today. Overbrook High School in Pine Hill is part of the Pine Hill School District; it receives students from several area towns including Clementon.
