We began on Franklin Street in Chapel Hill and are currently inside University Place (formerly University Mall) next to Silverspot Cinema. Kidzu's primary goal has always been to develop a permanent museum of adequate size with outdoor space and room for growth to best serve the children and families of our growing community. Kidzu's Launch Pad at University Place is a taste of the kinds of exhibits and activities the museum would feature in a permanent location, as well as other exhibits, program spaces, classrooms and outdoor exhibits that would serve, celebrate and reflect the academic and cultural richness of our community.

Our Mobile Museum has been on the Move!

We visited the STEM Entrepreneurship event in Sylva at Southwestern Community College on October 2nd, where we served 277 individuals! We also just got back from the STEAM Expo at zMax Dragway where we served 288 individuals!

The Mobile Museum’s next stop will be at the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Community event at Durham Bulls Athletic Park on October 24th! Come visit us at this FREE event!

We are thrilled to begin this exciting new chapter with the City of Rocky Mount, transforming the Imperial Centre into the flagship campus of the North Carolina Children’s Museum and creating a dynamic resource for children and families across North Carolina.

NCCM’s more than 20-year history of early childhood research in Chapel Hill will serve as the foundation for our work in Rocky Mount, with both locations remaining closely connected through a shared, research-based approach to learning, programming, and experiences for children and families.

It’s National Arts in Education Week — and the stakes are higher than ever.

Arts education isn’t a luxury — it’s a proven driver of student achievement, creativity, and workforce readiness. But right now, that foundation is under threat. The federal funding streams that support arts education in schools nationwide face funding cuts. The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) — a critical funder of arts programs across the country. The President’s FY 2027 Budget Request proposed eliminating the agency and advocacy is crucial to maintaining the NEA's funding through Congress. And access to arts degrees, including at HBCUs, is increasingly under pressure, threatening pathways into the creative economy for the next generation of artists and leaders.

When we lose these investments, we lose more than programs — we lose opportunity, culture, and community. This National Arts in Education Week, we’re urging Congress to fully fund arts education’s five federal funding streams, save the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) from closure, and protect access to arts degrees for every student, including at HBCUs.

Come Play, Listen & Learn in Mandarin! 🐼

On the first Saturday of each month, bring your kids and join us for a fun and interactive event from 12:30pm-1:00pm. Children will have the opportunity to: Learn Chinese songs, Listen to Mandarin stories, Explore Chinese culture and traditions, Make a fun cultural craft, Take home a special souvenir! No experience with Mandarin is necessary! Come have fun, learn something new, and enjoy the Chinese language and culture together. All families are welcome!

Storytime included with $6 admission to The Nest.
