Where is it Wednesday?
HERE IS THE ANSWER:
This was a hard one because this house no longer exists. This house was the first house west of the Federated Church on Bell Street. It was built in the 1850’s and was there until the shopping plaza was built. It was torn down and CVS now stands in its spot, After excavating quite a bit of the ground that was there (Approximately 20 feet high worth of dirt and stone). Some of the ground in that area had to be blasted out when the shopping plaza was built. As mentioned, I get a kick out of the guys in the tree.

Where is it Wednesday?
HERE IS THE ANSWER:
The Chagrin History Center supports history in Chagrin Falls and the surrounding Chagrin Valley area. Quite a few of you guessed this one, even though it is outside of the village limits. This is indeed the Ingalls farm on Chagrin River Road just a little bit south of Fairmount Road. It was just north of the White property. David Ingalls was the only US Navy flying ace in WWI. Starting around 1920, his farm was used as a runway and is still registered as a runway (Ingalls Airport ICAO code is US-5619). Many famous people flew in there to visit friends in the area. One of the most famous ones is in this picture. Charles Lindberg is the tall man on the left by the wing. He flew into this runway a few times. He was friends with people in the area, and he liked to dine at the old Crane’s Canary Cottage, which is now the Inn of Chagrin. At one time, there were many small runways like the Ingalls that were used. By the 1970’s or so, many had been turned into developments or were no longer being used.

Happy Home Tour Day!

Ticket pick up and purchase today will ONLY be at the Chagrin History Center Tent at the Intermediate School (off of Philomethian St.). This is a map of where we will be set up. Parking is available at the Intermediate School parking lot.

Today we are thankful for Carolyn Sihler, this year's Silver Sponsor of the Historic Chagrin Falls Home & Garden Tour! If you've been around the History Center, you might find Carolyn doing any number of things, from selling tickets and sitting in the museum to moving furniture and setting up for events. She really does it all! You also might recognize Carolyn as a Safe Routes Chagrin crossing guard! Safe Routes Chagrin is always looking for new crossing guards to help guide our youngest citizens safely to and from school. If you are interested in helping out with Safe Routes, please email [email protected].
