Legacy String Quartet to Perform in the Vanderbilt Museum Courtyard ✨🎻

Enjoy an evening of classical music in the beautiful mansion courtyard at the Suffolk County Vanderbilt Museum on Thursday, July 2, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.

The Legacy String Quartet will present a program featuring Mozart’s String Quartet No. 15, Mendelssohn’s String Quartet, Op. 44 No. 3, and Villa-Lobos’ String Quartet No. 5. A brief introduction to the composers and selections will precede the performance.

The quartet features Olga Tourkina, Saki Uetsuhara, Drew Vella, and James Acampora.

A dynamic ensemble of musicians from Long Island and New York City, the Legacy String Quartet made its debut in 2025 with performances at Carnegie Hall and the Tilles Center for the Performing Arts.

Survival Skills with Mike Evans

The Vanderbilt Museum is excited to offer Wilderness Survival with Mike Evans. Learn how people throughout history found shelter, water, warmth, and calm in the wild — and rediscover how those same skills can make modern camping, hiking, and time outdoors safer and more rewarding.

Workshops are taught in a supportive, low-risk environment with a focus on education, curiosity, and connection. Perfect for beginners, families, and lifelong learners who want to feel more confident and capable outdoors.

TONIGHT’S TWILIGHT SKY SHOW! ✨

Tonight, Tuesday, June 9, step outside shortly after sunset and look low toward the west-northwest for a beautiful planetary pairing! Brilliant Venus and bright Jupiter will appear close together in the evening twilight, creating one of the prettiest sky sights of the month.

For an extra challenge, look lower toward the horizon for elusive Mercury. It will be dimmer and harder to spot in the glow of twilight, so find a location with a clear view.

No telescope needed—just your eyes and a good horizon! Binoculars may help you pick out Mercury, but be sure to wait until the Sun has completely set.
On Long Island, sunset is around 8:24 PM, so start looking around 9:00 PM as twilight deepens.

Blast off on an exciting journey through space! Junior Astronomers will explore our solar system, learn how to use a telescope, identify constellations visible from Long Island, discover how astronauts will return to the Moon through NASA’s Artemis program, and much more.

This hands-on STEAM workshop combines interactive activities, experiments, and crafts with immersive live and pre-recorded fulldome presentations in our Planetarium theater for an out-of-this-world learning experience.
